Honestly at this point other than being too lazy to level, nothing else should cost, especially not the character and guild transfer services.

It would be a bit strange if you could change your race on the fly, 100x a day.
But they could put it on the BS with like a week cooldown.

They could just charge 100k or something and it would do something similar to paying real money. This is a good idea.

Not really, no. Maybe something about taking advantage of certain racials for specific situations? Of course, that would be less of an issue if they actually reworked the useless racials.

The base races are sent to race specific starting locations across the globe.
edit: wait, that doesn’t help against it if we can reach the barber.

I came in with the mindset of a solid no, but some of these answers might just work. Unfortunately, that’s a ways out. And a good ways out at that.
The race change system would need a somewhat overhaul to be barbershop accessible.

Gotta consider consistent faction change too with the race changes, but I think the character service should stay as is.
Aside from the fact that Blizzard just likes money so they just are never going to give away a service that people are paying for now, this would create some giga degenerate min-maxxing.
People would be race swapping between different dungeons to eek out slight advantages with racials. Same for raiding, you’d have people teleporting back to race change for the next boss. Take painsmith, every class that could would just race swap goblin for that fight so they could jump around the balls.
Some level of friction when there are gameplay changing things like racials involved is probably necessary.

I was thinking of an overhaul to the Services the other day, since Blizzard is already making money off of box prices (which they increased by 10 U.S.D. with Dragonflight), more expensive editions of boxes, and the subscription model as it is. Make some services like Name Change and Race Change on a cooldown similar to Restore Deleted Character.
Name Change: One charge, seven day cooldown.
Race Change: One charge, fourteen day cooldown.
Faction Change: One charge, thirty day cooldown.
Character Transfer: Shares charge and cooldown with Faction Change, can be used with Faction Change (optional).
How quickly they forget about Appearance Change being removed from the Shop and added to the Barber Shop instead…

I know I wouldn’t have all my alt slots full if I could race change for free, or for a small-ish gold price. I think it all comes down to my ADD. When I’m playing one race I want to play another. Like I’ll just see someone playing a gnome or something and I suddenly have a NEED to play that race. So I do on an alt for a bit and then I see someone playing some other race and it happens all over again.
It would such a huge help to me to just be able to race back to the barber for a sec and not wind up spreading my effort over multiple alts making it impossible to progress in the game.
…and then there’s classes. But I can’t get behind class changes. That seems a bit too easy to exploit, but I dunno.

Dang bros, I do like all the thought being put into this, like no bad ideas but this would def be not fun for me. I know we all play differently but I really fell in love with wow as a kid for the high fantasy. Like everything has/ had a story behind it. The races matter, in that, I think being able to switch constantly would disrespect the thought behind the race. To me the races are more than “this looks cool rn”, uk?

I genuinely don’t remember when the appearance change was sold on the cash shop. I’ll take your word on it tho, I don’t buy much from the shop so I could have missed it.
“Never” was probably too strong a word. To be more accurate should say they are highly unlikely to just randomly start giving away a service they are currently making money on. That’s simply not how business functions most of the time, that’s all I’m saying.

Swapping to the BiS race for your class, or swapping your race before doing a key or raid boss that being a certain race makes easier. They’d have to remove racial bonuses entirely.
