Here’s an idea… keep your changes to BFA. If you want homogenized classes, you have them in BFA.

there is room for improvement without homogenization.
as it stands paladins only tank ok until threat drops and DPS scaling start to occur, or when encounters are very short so mana doesn’t run out. It can be fixed without homogenizing. Bears aren’t warriors but don’t have all these problems

The only downsides Paladin tanks have in raids are their mana pool and the inability to be uncrushable
They don’t need taunts when they have immense aggro gain from greater blessings and judgements - plus blessing of protection can work as a ghetto taunt situationally
They are more than capable off tanks which is acceptable considering the utility/buffs they also bring.
And if you are talking 5 mans? They are perfectly fine there as well

Prot tanking is it’s own challenge. I tanked Maraudon in Vanilla in Bear form on my (Balance) Druid. Was it optimal? No. Did it work? Yes.
We don’t need to be Death Knights, or even Warriors, to get the job done. Just learn the skills you do have.

Warriors were still better for raid bosses. Paladins were good for trash tanking (Hyjal trash anyone?).
Point is, Paladins can still have taunt but have each tanking class be good at their own niche.
The biggest issue for Paladin tanking is downtime (drinking after every other pull), no mechanism to regain threat after a de-aggro ability, and very bad threat scaling to gear.
Bears have taunt, because that’s a base ability.

Casting greater blessings over and over while an enemy hits you in the face isn’t thrilling gameplay, it wasn’t intended to be the way paladins hold threat, and it doesn’t work as well as people portray anyway.
Paladins actually tank very well while leveling and VERY EARLY in P1 at level 60 because holy shield, consecrate, and SoR/JoR have nice high baseline TPS compared to what DPS can put out. With a group of raid geared DPS, paladin baseline TPS is inadequate (unless the DPS hold back). And it gets worse because paladins don’t scale. There is a small bump in phase 3 when spell power plate becomes available, but its a weak bump, and removing too much + defense makes tanking a headache in other ways.
I realize you can also break the threat drop mechanics of a few bosses by, for example, standing with your back to a wall if the threat drop involves a punt. But it’s silly and makes your eyes roll because you’re cheesing a poorly conceived mechanic. Having the butcher in scholo wipe all of your threat and ping pong around slashing people while you’re powerless to prevent it is a weakness in the class design. A class that’s supposed to be able to tank.
Paladins are already the most OP healers, why would you also make them the most OP tanks too?

Incorrect, priests with BiS are better than Holy Paladins with BiS if the fight is short.

In short, PvE fights, sure. In just about every other situation youd prefer a paladin. Paladins bring far more utility to the raid.
Since we’re talking about tanking, then obviously we’re talking about PvE.
In the current meta, all MC fights are extremely short. So in essence, priests are better than Holy Paladins. Thanks for agreeing to my point.
