Since the return of tier sets in Sepulcher and Dragonflight, I’ve been having one major problem with the effects the tier sets. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of the sets have been some of the best they’ve ever created, but some of the lower difficulty variations of sets have been way too flashy.
Take for example, the season 2 TWW monk set. I absolutely adore the set, but when looking at the normal, heroic, LFR, or conquest variants, you’d think it’s the mythic or elite set. Then, you add the mythic effect to it, and it looks exactly the same. Why? Shouldn’t lower difficulty sets have little to no effect to them, then the mythic effect adds onto that, actually making the goal of Keystone Hero, 2400, or Mythic raiding worth the journey?
This problem became very apparent to me in the current season (season 2). I wanted to see how that monk set looked with the mythic effect on it and was insanely disappointed and discouraged when thinking about getting KSH. That set isn’t the only one that has this problem. TWW season 2 has many sets like this: DK, Rogue, Paladin, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Druid, and, arguably, Evoker. Season 2 wasn’t the only season where I noticed this. Season 1 TWW had some too with the warrior, Hunter, and Rogue, just to name a few. TWW Season 3 and even the Dragonflight sets fell to the same issue.
I’ve only seen up to 3 sets per season that have had the right feeling to them. Going back to TWW season 2, the warrior and warlock sets were the perfect example of how they should go about creating the set effects. Both of those sets (normal, heroic, LFR, and conquest) had very minimal visuals to them. Then, adding the mythic effect showed a major upgrade. Legion sets were the best example of how effects should be done.
My main question is, why does Blizzard do this? It pretty much makes the mythic appearance goal of KSH and highest sets quite insignificant compared to the lower difficulties. I’m not sure if I’m the only one that’s noticed this or has had a problem with it, but I’m to a point where this goal isn’t even worth making anymore. I want the mythic appearance to look mythic again.
