Do you see a lot of disparity between tier lists?
Are there outlets that produce tier lists you take as gospel?
Anyone who has real insight?
I sometimes think as I read/watch these things, that these guys are full of it. Hoping to crowdsource either confirmation of things I check out now, or new ones worth a read.
Icy Veins (https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/dps-rankings-tier-list and https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/mythic-dps-tier-list) has been around for a long time and have a lot of top tier players contributing to their content on a regular basis.
But tier lists can change pretty drastically from hotfix to hotfix, patch to patch, and expansion to expansion. If you’re not chasing world first or realm first achievements, the most “optimal” way to play is whichever way you have the most fun with.
Tierlists can evolve since classes or specs aren’t always fully explored right away. But usually by the end of a patch, people can make good tier lists
Icy Veins generally has good ideas about what works and doesn’t, as most of the guide writers there are actually quite experienced at what they’re doing. Its still important to take tier lists with a grain of salt no matter who is putting them out because they are still based on very broad ratings of the overall state of things. Some specs can be A or S tier because they have a few fights where they absolutely destroy like say Sub rogue on Zul making the fight insanely easier due to them being able to funnel combo points from crawgs, or resto druids being really good at dealing with tides in beguiling in bfa s3 M+. Its better to take tier lists as more of a guideline than actual fact.
A good reminder. I think I’m mostly looking because I give myself a lot of insane parameters. I still have an old mindset in WoW, and I like to play the class that helps the group most (usually the least populous class that can fill an in-damnd role) which isn’t really a thing anymore.
To that end, I have a hard time playing what I love. And I guess I’m hoping tier lists will narrow the field of options. Now that I write it out, it seems like false hope.
I’d say play whatever floats your boat. I used to main this shaman back in legion / early bfa when it was poopoodoodoo according to tier lists and did more than fine. Many of the times when a class becomes super godlike, its because someone was dedicated enough to learn how to leverage every advantage they could bring, and it showed people de wey. Even the all encompassing imba holy paladin wasn’t considered all that great until midway through 8.2 when people discovered glimmer builds could clap cheeks.
