Can we apply a gem on a helm we have used the prized varnish on? Is the wording just saying you are limited to either a pvp socket or a pve socket? Will the pve socket be active in pvp?

The idea is so you can’t apply the socket that you get from PvP to the helm if you got the helm from pve. You would otherwise be able to sidestep gated pve resource progress via a PvP mechanism and that’s never allowed. You have to put the pve socket on it and yes whatever gem goes in the pve socket works in PvP, I assume. Am about 90% that this is approximately how it works.

Cant use pvp socket on pve helm, even if you make it a “pvp scaling helm” with the varnish. You’d need to use weekly vault socket to add it.

This is the actual answer, which I thought was pretty clear from the notes.
Also, I’m not 100% sure about this (not a big PVE player), but PVE sockets can be made by JCs and sold on the AH. That might work, too, seeing as it counts as a PVE socket. I just discovered this recently myself.

This ONLY works on jewlery (rings and neck). You still need the vault socket for helmet, belt, and bracers!
Ok. Good to know. I just found out about these sockets myself. I was like, “Whaaat? I could have been crafting and selling sockets the whole time?!”

wrong, neck / rings can use Setting from JC’s. Its Head / wrist / Belt that need the socked from the Vault.
