Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent

So I want the Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent. I know how to get it. You need a Skyshard and when she uses her ability called Nimbus Shroud, you use it. I don’t know if you HAVE to have the Skyshard, and since I’m level 107 at the time of posting this I probably could one-shot her. Thanks

Last I knew, you need 10 Skyshards. And yes you can kill her easily.

You need the skyshard to make her attackable. Otherwise, she has an immune shield around her.

So I can’t just kill her without getting the sky crystal? And yes, you do need 10 skyshards. I just said the wrong thing
Also do you know if skyshards drop 1 at a time or 10?

Well theoretically if you pull a pack of 10 NPCs and kill them you could get 10 in one go, sure.

In all the times I’ve gone back to farm, have only ever acquired 2 shards. That serpent hates me.

What you do is wait for someone to spam trade trying to sell tags on the mount.

Keep an eye on that group that is forming, and when it starts to fill, go find Alani and follow her around the vale. Soon enough, the group will get in, remove her shield, and then you immediately spam an instant attack ability to snag a tag.

The group still gets their dragon, as the removing the shield tags her, but you get to bum yourself a cloud serpent.

And brace yourself for some hardcore nerd rage, and if was the olden days, being blacklisted from every guild on the server.

What group?

Or, just go to the sky serpent vendor. You have a choice of 4-5 colors. Same mount. Pick one and be done.

I want to say I saw the sky serpent on the AH the other day.

Alani’s drop is BoE now. You can buy it from the AH instead of those risky group sellers.

You need to collect a number of crystals before you can tag her. I did it about 2 years ago by myself. Took me about 3 days of hard grinding to collect the crystals from the mobs that drop them in Vale. They have a very low % drop.

They drop one at a time, and I know people that have farmed for the 10 shards for months.

Strategy 1: Farm necessary materials to lower her barrier and pray to god that there isn’t a hunter in the zone.

Strategy 2: Roll either a Hunter or a Death Knight and fly through zone periodically. Then Tag Alani as soon as her barrier drops because a player of the opposing faction did the necessary farming and steal their kill. (I did this. I regret nothing.)

I saw it on the AH recently, looks to be BoE now too.

I think I will just try to get the shards myself. Stealing the serpent is really a jerk move. Like Cyniel said, some people have farmed for the shards for months. Also I have already found one in maybe an hour of searching.
If you have any tips for finding them, please tell me

Look up what mobs in Vale drop them, and just farm kill them over and over. Majority of them are in the northwest part of Vale. The Five Sisters and Ruins of Guo-Lai and Halls are the area’s they spawn in when you look at your map. If you have progressed far enough, they do not touch any area the Sha has touched. However packs of wolves love to run around the area these mobs also spawn in, so just be careful of those. Edit to add There are a lot of these mobs so even if others are farming them, they respawn pretty fast, and are enough that more then a couple people can farm and still collect the crystals.

I just did the grind and killed the mobs that dropped them, while listening to music and talking to friends over voice coms to help past the time.

Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

Ok! Thanks so much! I will see what mobs drop them

Meeeeee! I had two from doing MoP and I’ve managed to add another three before my mind went numb and I lost interest in pink noodle dragons.

Maybe BfA is the ideal expansion to try farming them again.

I think I still have my 5 shards on my rogue somewhere… I’d have to look… I lost my mind farming those things and never got all 10.

I did it on this toon during the start of Legion. I think it took me about… mmm 12-18 hours total grinding over the span of a couple days. I could one shot the mobs so mostly it was just finding ways to keep me entertained while doing it. I do recalling doing it non stop for over 6 hours once. Other then that, it was in smaller hour clusters. If you can find a way to keep your mind busy (talk to friends over coms or watch a movie on your phone/ listen to music) it really helps a lot! You can do it! I believe.
