Thundering: Is it fun?

I feel like Thundering doesn’t follow the pattern of the last few seasonal affixes. They were fun, like the season four Shadowlands: Shrouded. Thundering just feels like an inconvenience, and many players in pugs just clear it immediately anyways even if you don’t want to. 30% just doesn’t feel that big of a benefit to stretch the duration like intended.

Might have been posted several times before now, I just wanted to mention it myself.

Its not. I’ve suggested that the buff should take place after its cleared and last 5-10 secs longer. At least then you could use cd’s better.

It’s more of an inconvenience at times than a benefit. +30% damage for 5-10s every minute or so isn’t really impactful.

Prideful in SL S1 was +30% damage/healing and infinite mana for a whole minute that you usually triggered right before a boss.

Not having a mana gain for the first time since they decided to add pvp drinking to m+ is a massive demerit I never see anyone mention. The timer on thundering means that no one but the most organized groups are really using thundering for its damage effect, and in general makes it an nuisance to work around rather then an affix to plan around like, basically every seasonal affix since reaping.

They made it like the weekly affixes and those are the worst part of m+.

I hate thundering plain and simple especially in bosses where everyone is spread out or electricity themed bosses where it sort of blends in

i don’t find it fun or interesting at all. feels about as impactful as one of the rotating weekly affixes tbh.

the only thing it adds is a more clutter & stress to an already busy screen with very little reward. you could feel the power gain with Urh or Pride…i don’t even notice it with thundering.

also having to deal with the mechanic during boss encounters is pretty annoying…at least in SL S2 you could decide whether or not you wanted to deal with that layer of difficulty or not…the randomness of thundering isn’t always very useful, since you can’t strategize/plan with it really :100:

whoever designed thundering obviously doesn’t want to budge (since beta), so i kinda hope they’re not in charge of season 2’s affix, because i don’t think they understand what m+ players are looking for with those seasonal ones; it feels as if they def don’t want to consider community feedback on this one. (even the world class players are vocal about how much they hate it)

No.

It adds visual clutter to an already cluttered expansion and doesn’t offer enough reward for how punishing it can be. They could outright remove this affix from the rest of the season with no replacement and it would still be more enjoyable than it is right now.

I agree not being able to plan around thundering is what makes it a giant pain on top of the duration being too short to actually feel impactful

As a tank, that 4 second stun is an eternity and a death sentence that causes wipes if you can’t move certain mobs or bosses to go clear the debuff.

I wouldn’t mind it so much if it was like a 1 or 1.5 second stun.

As far as being “fun“ eh it’s okay. Not the worst, not the best either.

They should replace the stun and the dot with a -15-20% dps/heal debuff for like 5 seconds.

Thank gods, blizzard forgot to make thundering spell reflected by pwar. Thundering god, kill more pwar, please. This is the only thing that my BDK feels superior to pwar because I can AMS and IBF thundering. I love seeing pwars’ tear, so delicious.

I played through Shadowlands mythic plus when prot warrior was trash and no one wanted anything but a DK. I think I’ll be okay. Has nothing to do with DK vs Prot warrior, the question was is it fun?

It’s too punishing. Shouldn’t stun and put a big dot just put a dps debuff for not clearing. In big pulls sometimes can’t reach the tank and I can’t just turn the frontals around so it’s a catch 22. Prideful was pretty bad but at least manageable.

Me who can use my human racial on a stray thundering stun :grinning:

I agree with this if the healer messes up thindering in the middle of a boss fight its a wipe if no brezzes are available

No, I don’t find it fun.

It happens at the most inconvenient time, either when there’s only one NPC at low health or when it comes times to spread out or stand in a certain place during the boss fight.

It doesn’t last long enough to have an impact, and it feels like the buff it gives makes no difference at all.

On top of that, it feels backwards. Normally, if you do a certain task or action well or at the right time, you get the buff. With this, you get the buff first, but it punishes you if don’t do the mechanics for it correctly.

I am fine with the current affix. The s3-s4 affixes were blessings in disguise without negative effects, s3 bots were automatically cleaved down. s4 Dreadlords give hefty free counts for killing them, which makes the routes even smoother because you can skip plenty of troublesome packs.
This season affix is the real kiss and curse

Just had it happen on the last boss of Ruby life pool. I either had to run through multiple patches of fire and the breathing dragon most likely getting myself killed. Or eating the stun which will probably lead to my death as the wind was about to pick up. Tried the second option and the wind obviously sent the fire patches to me who was stunned and I died as the healer was also stunned.

It is what it is. I mostly see people panic and shed it way too soon.

Edit: further experience with it; had it cause a wipe tonight because it was impossible to clear during the boss fight mechanics.

Can’t stand it. There’s already enough swirls going on. I don’t need more under my feet and above my head. The graphics for it are still bad even with the updates

New dungeons now are just pure Swirly overload. Swirly here, swirly there, don’t stand in this swirl, do stand in that swirl. It’s not fun. I want the seasonal affix to be fun. Something that makes me want to do more m+, not the opposite.
