If a hunter can equip 1h swords, does that mean that obtaining Thunderfury on a hunter unlocks the tmog for your account?

This wowhead guide does not say hunters can do it.
In general, if the character can equip the weapon then that will unlock the transmog for it. At least that’s been my experience with my characters. Thunderfury apparently is no exception - a hunter commented on wowhead about a month ago that they were able to get it.
It’s only with armor that you have to be concerned about the class.

I am able to transmog thunder fury on my warlock. I obtained it on my warrior.
