Anyone have any tips on how thundercleave should be played? I’m fairly new to arena, and not exactly sure what this comp is supposed to be. As the warrior am I just to stop gos and keep everything bleeding? We have a hpal healer, so is it even still thundercleave? Can’t find any info really to research. Thanks.
thunder is strong with high single target dmg and survivability
historically thunder has just played not to lose
all of legion/wod the warrior would pretty much stormbolt the most threatening target on cd
can throw disarm into some comps
if you arnt confident with banner and dont need reflect you can also play duel for sticky situations
ele sits wolf kiting until lasso->earthshock happens
make sure you have a trident and cos gloves, make sure your ele has 2-3 packspirit traits
essentially your guys goes are
around lasso into earthshock which line up pretty well with warbreaker and sharpen
hpal isnt horrible, druids probably better but hpal mana is really efficient and if the hpal has 2 or 3 indoms you can expect 20-40k judgements on low health which can easily delete someone when earthshock/lasso/warbreaker sharpen ms go out
overall not super meta atm but you can def slap people
you as a warrior might have a hardtime without trident though and your ele can die without packspirits
I play thunder every season pretty much up to 2650ish. Its a tier 2-3 comp atm (which is why i dont play much) and if you replace war with WW it works even better, but you can still win a lot of matchups. As the war the few things ive really noticed that my war does well are the following (sorry for wall of text):
Against caster cleaves, make sure you dont waste reflect, leap, or parry. Getting stuck in the open without cds is the best win condition for the casters. It will be an annoying game for you. Make sure you are rotating cds well with your healer. Your sham needs to make sure they are pumping damage and being super disruptive during their cds. The hardest part is keeping uptime on a target. Usually our war hits whichever one plays closest. We find the most success is when the ele/healer can position closer to allow easier cc and the shaman can help interrupt/ground.
Melee cleaves. Typically your jobs is to help keep melee slowed and peel as needed. If your sham and hpal can kite effectively you can harass healers that push in. Most melee cleaves will train shaman, but the ele has to run the right talents and save sk/lasso for when you can connect on a target. Big thing here is knowing when to peel, avoid getting low health in bstance, and swapping on aggressive healers. Otherwise just keep up high dmg and be in bstance when its safe.
RMPal is a tough matchup. The war is crucial is this matchup. Prebannering, fearing >1 during a setup, stun/disarm during kidney, and maintaing high dmg will make a huge difference. I cant stress enough how important the war is in this matchup. If the war plays bad it can easily cost you to lose early.
Overall, thunder is a fun comp that play super defensive and also can be the aggressors. Lately most games we win dont go into dampening unless its dh/dk or MLX. I think this comp is one of comps where a good war makes a huge difference. Also, hpal can work well. Rdruid / mw is prolly better but hpal cds/freedom could definitely work. Hope this essay helps haha
Thunder in BFA? It’s a damp comp.
Just don’t die. Basically run until you finally wear the other team down somewhere around 55% dampening probably.
That’s the short version.
For the long version see the post above, he nailed it pretty well.
Thanks a ton guys, made it to 1960 my first season and was hoping for 2k this one, but the meta ( if it’s really applicable at our rating ) seems to be taking a toll on my teams motivation. They are both more experienced than myself so I’m trying to pull my weight a bit more.
To be fair, the meta doesn’t do you any favors as Thunder right now. But you can still get to 2k. You have the right mindset. Just keep the motivation, keep working toward improvement, and you’ll get better.
Best of luck
