Thunder Tea Renewing Mist question

Hi community,

I finally found sometime to play WoW again! Being trying a monk, and so far I have some questions regarding the Mistweaver.

When I pair Renewing Mist with Thunder Tea, its duration is extended. When I do Rising Sun Kick with Rising Mist talent, it refreshes the duration 100%; that much I understand.

What happens when the Renewing Mist hops onto a new player? Does it get the regular non-thunder tea duration? And will it get replaced when I cast the Soothing beam and Enveloping Mist combo for more Renewing Mist coverage?

Basically, I am asking if there is a way to maintain the long duration version; so that with enough rotations with Thunder Tea, all 5 party members or raid member all have the long Renewing Mist.

I tried both Fistweaver and Mistweaver builds, and I like them both. But I find in both builds Thunder Tea Renewing Mist seems to be my main starting spell preference.

I’m not sure you can get the extend RM on all 5 party members, that said in 5 man content using RM on CD and RSK should keep it active nearly 100% of the time on everyone.

The duration will prevail, as well as the already extended duration (this hopping Renewing Mist will have a total of 1 minute, maximum).

No it won’t. “Rapid Diffusion” is the talent that casts Renewing Mists on friendly targets that do not already have a Renewing Mist on them. That being said, it won’t even refresh instances where the remaining duration is one second (even if each player already has one Renewing Mist on them — Rapid Diffusion simply won’t proc then).

Hypothetically, yes.
Don’t forget that Renewing Mist has a 9 sec CD — Thunder Focus Tea has a 30-second CD (that can be shortened down a little). Without shorting the CD and with the “Focused Thunder” talent, you will be able to use 4 times the long Renewing Mist during 60 seconds of play (maximum extension of the long Renewing Mist). So in that case, you would have 4 instances running.
With the Usage of “Font of Life” you can reduce the Thunder Focus Tea cooldown, resulting in a usage of 3 times during these 60 seconds, having 5 long Renewing Mists running on 5 players. But one of these instances would be about to run out in around 6 seconds or so.

Something very useful to know:

  1. When re-applying a HoT on a target, the 30% rule will apply, resulting in a 30% extension of the new buff. So if you first use a normal Renewing Mist (at 2 charges and wait for the 2nd charge to refresh again) and then a “long” (30-seconds) Renewing Mist on the same target: You would add the remaining HoT duration to the freshly applied buff, resulting in a duration of up to 39 seconds: that could be extended to up to 69 seconds (I tested it, the 9 seconds extra time will not be extended, only being a flat increase of time).
  2. Renewing Mist will “try to avoid” being extended: When you try to extend the buff duration (with the 30% rule), the already lingering Renewing Mist will first try to jump to an injured target within 20 yards, resulting in 2 instances of this HoT without any added duration. You can only extend the duration when there is no injured friendly target within 20 yards.

I hope this covers all your questions and might help you and others with creating slightly different ideas of usage.
Note: Because of our current 2-set, it should be considered whether it’s worth to cast Renewing Mist twice back-to-back on the same target (hoping to get the 10% “Dancing Mists” proc by forcing it to jump immediately).

Good info! Thanks
