Biased? A little.
But honestly, since the wrath pre-patch for classic. There’s no greater city. “But Ox! what about the crappy walk to Ogrimmar or X-roads?” Not to worry traveler, they put in a new Zeppy and the best thing is it never takes you to a loading screen…so at certain points, you can bail out and grab X-roads flight path for example. Huge time saver!
The layout and design are the best we have in wow. Ironforge comes close but they share it with some rodents and UC/Shat = Oribos. Sw is a modern city grid while Ogrimmar is finding the right hut game. We barely visit the new arrivals and lastly, I saw no fire evacuation plan on my last visit.
Still not convinced?
The proximity of everything is unmatched. There are patrolling and stationary guards everywhere for directions (some cities clearly don’t pay well). The main FP atop a giant totem in the middle of town gives you a nice 360 view of the surroundings. And an easy place to base jump off with a parachute.
You have an AH right next to a bank/forge and other various trainers as well as a small lake that can be fished for new travelers to get some fishing skill points.
As a fortification it’s unmatched. UC, Silvermoon, and Shattrath are cities built around ruins. Exodar is a spaceship crash. Darnassus is a mobile home. We know Teldrassils weakness. IF is one way in or out. SW can be attacked from land and sea and has been raised a few times already. Ogrimmar lies within a valley with 3 entrances and is exposed to high ground all around.
One last point which might be disagreeable on. The never-ending element of danger. those rickety bridges are unforgiving and add a bit of spice to keep you on your toes.
and that is why Thunder Bluff is the best city!
