Honestly, I was expecting this. Not because of some low opinion of the devs but because I didn’t see how they could make it work. There’s so many hairstyles to take into account, and I’m sure there’s more hairstyles down the road.

Still, this is something they really should develop some tech for. Like having hats come with short, medium, and long hat hair options. Actually, more like every race having a short, medium, and long hat hair built in. So when a hat is put on players could at least choose to have their hair short, like currently, or longer.

So basically when a hat is put on the current hairstyle is removed, just like now, so there’s nothing clipping though the hat, but where the back of the head is currently a buzzcut there would be a medium or long hair option. I’m not sure if the hair length should be a separate option for the player to choose or if it would be based on the hairstyle the character currently has. Like if the character has a short hairstyle hats would display the current short hair. If the hairstyle is medium length they’d get the medium hat hair, etc.

Of course the hat hair would be the same color as the character’s normal hair, just like now. I guess the only real downside would be that the hat hair would probably be straight when many characters have wavy or curly hairstyles. Still, straight hair is probably better than no hair at all, and they could add to it in the future.

They should have just let it clip and let us choose to mog out, or change our hairstyle.

As far as I know the Kul Tiran pirate hat has hairstyles loaded into the model, and there’s no reason why that shouldn’t be true for most (if not all) hats.

Take hoods, for example:
Short hair > keep it as is on live
Long hair > add peek-a-boo locks like every main character with a hood
