A majority of my state is on fire, and evacuation warnings are in place. We currently have our things packed and ready to leave once the signal is given that it’s too dangerous to stay where we are.
But my question is this.
How hardcore of a wow player would it make me if I stayed and just let the fire consume me as I played classic?
Would I be more dedicated than the sweaty tryhards? Would I outclass all of the min-maxer’s? Would I be more determined than everybody else who didnt decide to play through a burning inferno?
Ofc I’m not going to do that, but could you imagine if somebody did?
You wouldn’t be able to. Your utilities would go out before the flames got you. Of course it might be too late to get out by that point and you’d have to be rescued, which would be incredibly disrespectful of the workers who could be fighting the fire in other ways.
I was actually in the middle of a raid when I got the order to evacuate my house due to one of the fires three weeks ago. I logged off and left immediately
I was finally allowed to return over the weekend and my house is still standing.
There’s a clip of a guy actually raiding throughout an over 8.0 earthquake. Saw it recently in one of those WoW greatest clips montages…
That being said, as it’s been stated previous, utilities often go first which would immediately nullify staying to raid. Can’t raid with no power/internets my guy.
In my case, there was about a six hour time lapse between when I was told to leave and when I got a text message telling me the power had gone out (I was long gone by then). But when you’re told to leave you have no idea how close it actually is, it could be on your doorstep.
I am. There was a lot of damage in my town, but luckily my house made it and I was finally able to return home. Glad to hear you’re doing well too.
Typically during a power outage the cell networks go down too because they are fueled by power. In rare cases, you might be down but a nearby cell tower might happen to be up, but for the vast majority of power outages I’ve been in the cell networks are down.
If youve ever been in a real natural disaster, cell phone service tends to be spotty at best. Towers can go out and the ones that don’t tend to be absolutely overwhelmed with the number of people trying to call family or emergency services for help.
I just want to clarify that I’m not being thoughtlessly insensitive about this. We had family and friends impacted when our own country’s east coast was on fire earlier this year. Just humoring OP’s hypothetical.
