I just hate the idea of all classes been more simple. Are we going to end with all classes being 3 button rotation classes? I like the complexity and having lots of buttons to press and differente combinations as well as visual effects.
Having a three button rotation would be extremely boring to a level it would make me unsub.
Otherwise this is just a game for babies, same a newer games that are coming in.

Which class will have 3 buttons?

It is just a saying, but it seems they are aiming at simplifying classes to a point in which your rotation relies entirely on just a few buttons, some classes even 3, Evoker for instance.

If DPS class A needs 3 buttons to make X damage but DPS class B need 7 buttons to do the same X damage it simply means Class A is better designed for said role.
I mean everytime i play paladin, hunter, DH and even frost DK now they seem to be a 2025 class whereas my feral druid and demon warlock rotations seems poorly designed and even outdated.
Im not even gonna argue how terrible its to build up damage for some classes when compared to others. Specially in a bursty PvP scenario, hate playing destro lock rn in arenas.

Because it’s boring.
BM hunter is basically a 3 button spec right now and it’s one of the better DPS specs in the game. While it’s a popular spec, the vast majority of players aren’t playing it.

Most of the specs I play have 15-20 buttons used regularly enough to need muscle memory keybinds. From what I’ve looked at, they will be losing 2 or 3 buttons, and not core rotation buttons.
There’s a lot more to the game than your core rotation. If you aren’t including interrupts/cc, defensives, or utility as “buttons”, you should probably work on that for the sake of your group.

Shadow losing 3 core rotation abilities.

The class that needs 7 buttons should do more damage, but Blizzard is incapable of getting that correct.

I will say I’m not overly familiar with Shadow or its changes, but I do recall that the last time I tried it felt like it had a ton of buttons. I bet it will still have a lot more than 3.

The result is a lot more time spent using filler Mind Flay, which is boring.

3 buttons, really? If you exaggerate this much your post becomes meaningless and any genuine constructive criticism you may have becomes irrelevant.

It’s not exaggerating if you aren’t being overly literal.
Main buttons you hit 80-90% of the time vs maintenance buttons and cds.
Fire Mage quite literally has three buttons and combustion on Alpha right now. I do not believe that it will in any way launch like this, but it’s not an unreasonable time to mention concerns about it.

It’s actually moving it down to eight buttons to play the entire game.

To be fair you can make quite a complex game around 4 core rotation buttons. Just look any Moba such as LoL and Dota2. Imagine we had our 4 main abilities + situational, cc, def buttons.
This is assuming your metric for measuring good design is fewer buttons
By this logic we should reduced specs to 1 button because that’s better designed for its function.
You’re leaving out the entire factor of appeal and fun.

5 is much more in line with the point OP is making. Just enough for controllers
Fire mage got hit really really hard with the over simplification. They basically have 3 rotational buttons…Fireball, Fire Blast and Pyroblast. Scorch was made a passive, Phoenix Flames were removed. All mages lost Shifting Power.
edit: I am ok with simplifying specs, but not every spec needs to be Ret or BM hunter.

I would genuinely love to have a spec where the damage rotation is only 3 buttons and everything else is situational utility like blink, frost nova, barriers, counterspell, etc.
