So with collector’s bounty I, like many, have spent time in a lot of older raids. Now, I’ve done all of these raids in my past but some have been quite some time ago and I don’t recall every path to every boss. Some, like Tomb of Sarg can even be a bit hidden. With many players who may have never been to these raids at all I’m certain it can be confusing on where to go, or what objectives may be required to progress.
Right now the general maps are pretty limited and most especially on older maps. There are up/down buttons that take you to other maps but it certainly feels like there could be some enhancement here. So, here are a couple of thoughts for some quality of life. Note: Not even saying these are the best options for the ideas, but it’s a starting point for a conversation.
- Add tabs to the maps. Rather than having to try to click through each stairway or drop zone, add a tab. Main floor, basement, spire, etc. Whatever the names are, it could allow for quick and easy flipping up or down to the next map. Or, from the top level to bottom without having to click through every area of Castle Nathrea.
- Add teleport icons and a tooltip that identifies the conditions required to proceed. Hellfire Citadel has a portal that Khadgar will open to head up but you have to kill specific bosses. It’s not immediately apparent which bosses they are or how to get to all of them. Even just knowing that there was one more to get would’ve been helpful. I think Tomb of Sargeras has crystals that do the same thing (except you have to click them after the boss). I’m not 100% on that, it’s been a while since I actually went there.
- Show the path to the next boss. This could be a line or dotted line or something showing from start to each boss the path that takes you there. This could identify optional bosses (or at least, optional order bosses) differently than primary bosses. Or, it would likely be a bit harder to do this, but maybe even a path on the map from current location to the boss you’ve selected (or the map marker you dropped).
Ultimately, this seems like a generally small thing but I’ve found raid maps to generally be complicated to actually connect with and I’m generally quite good at reading maps overall. Not all of my raiders are nearly so good and they can get lost very easily. Being able to more easily see how to get from objective A to objective B on the maps would be a small but welcome improvement for older content, and of much broader value on current content.
