Demonic Circle, Demonic Circle: Teleport, Ritual of Doom, Curse of Doom, Curse of Weakness, Curse of Recklessness, and Curse of Tongues. All baseline, all class wide apparently.
Demonic Circle is finally baseline yesssss! We’ve been asking for this since Legion and it finally happened
Curses coming back is a welcome change IMO. Brings some flavorful utility to Warlocks, though since they showed Recklessness instead of Frailty, I’m guessing that one’s probably staying a PvP talent?
With curses coming back, all specs will be able to use (Curse of) Doom now. Interesting change. Honestly kinda excited about this, though I hope the spell sees some changes to make it more fun. Ticking every 15 seconds and summoning an imp on crit, maybe?
Ritual of Doom… well, that’s certainly one way to put the Doomguard back into the game. Awesome.
Generally happy with these changes, though I hope Doom doesn’t factor too much into the spec’s DPS, since we’re gonna have to pick between having Doom up or using one of the utility curses and I don’t want a repeat the Demo interrupt situation tbh
More like too late to the game, and even worse: the game has changed.
Not saying it is entirely useless, but we almost always ‘had’ to take Burning Rush because it is our ‘only choice’ for dealing with movement requirements.
At best, this only saves us ‘one talent point’ to take something else. At worse, we’ll still be stuck with Burning Rush - except now, they’ll balance warlock movement by assuming ‘burning rush+demonic circle’ is the basis to work with, which ironically is exactly the talent combination we’re stuck with ever since they swapped Demon Skin with Demonic Circle because we were ‘too tanky’.
I agree that it will add some flavorful utility back, which is a good thing. And yes, very likely some others like Frailty will remain as PvP talent.
The concern is how it will be implemented, which can make/break the whole thing.
My opinion here, but this really improves nothing if they didn’t change how the spell works.
At best, this is just another dot to manage, with the same age old problem of ‘it is absolutely useless if the mob dies before it ticks’. It was a terrible design then, and it is still a terrible design now.
At worse, we’ll forget it even exist. If they imposed the one-curse-per-warlock limit due to balancing reasons, then yes - we might as well forget Curse of Doom even exist, because obviously other curses would be more favorable with their utility.
Nothing awesome about it, to be blunt.
Apart from the sentimental RP value, the actual combat value is practically non-existant. Even worse is how after all these years, Doomguard is still stuck with the antique design of having it’s slow utility being attached with a channeling mechanic.
Your ‘ultimate’ demon is doing absolutely zero dps when you need to slow a target, what a ‘great’ design. Did i even mention how Doombolt has only 30 yards while our ‘lowly’ imp has 40 yard range on it’s puny firebolt?
Might as well bring back Curse of Exhaustion, aka Curse of Slow instead, since they refused to update our pets to get up to date with modern times.
One of the curse of being a long time warlock player, is how i tend to see rehashed design that was tested and proven to be a failure, just to somehow make a return and claim it will be better when there’s no improvements/changes being made.
Doom, even as the current idiotic ‘talent’ version, hardly see any practical use outside raiding/mythic+. Bringing that back as a baseline spell, which might even clash with other curses due to 1-curse-only limit, simply adds another spell that we find little to no reason to use.
Not to mention the much complained interrupt situation.
I get it - this is a generic class QnA, so no specific class questions being answered. Then again, just when will warlocks get that much needed update to their interrupt utility?
Yeah, though the addition of more flavor/niche/situational abilities is nice, we haven’t seen anything substantial regarding the core mechanics of any specs. That’s what I’m mainly interested in.
I was excited at start, but then as I got in the details:
Demonic Circle: Nice.
Death Coil: Is it our old Death Coil/current Mortal Coil or DK’s Death Coil?
Ritual of Doom: Flavor, but useless unless reworked.
Curses: with the exception of Tongues, they shown the least useful curses. Weakness is almost never used, Recklessness has no place in a game which Fear breaks with a fart, and Curse of Doom is just flavor, unless changed to deal real high damage, wich I doubt.
Instead, they could give us Elements and Exhaustion, the most used curses along with Tongues.
While at it, remove the awful UA stacking mechanic, it prevents us from having true dispel protection. Extend DoT duration, remove the god awful Darkglare and make DoTs meaningful again. I want to have consistent, significant pressure, as a DoT class should have.
If the current team is too young to know what I’m talking about, go play Classic/BC/WotLK.
Imagine if ritual of doom did not just summon a doomguard but other demons and if we survived summoning them to enslave them they would become permanent pets replacing older ones. Don’t you think that would be cool.
I’d LOVE it if they brought back Kil’jaedens Cunning though I doubt they will. Maybe put it on the line in place of Demonic Circle, so we can choose between it or Burning Rush.
