Thoughts on Riots new mmo?

The lore, world, and races (or, speculation about such things) sound amazing, so I might have to try it whenever it comes out if I can peel myself away from WoW long enough to do so.

That’s based on LoL, right? Never been interested in that game. Tried to watch the show on Netflix but couldn’t get into it. I’m not starting over with a new MMO unless it’s really, really good so I’ll let my kid be the guinea pig.

Unique races, and diversity in music and aesthetics. All they need to do is keep the same energy from their music videos, the art styles from LoL, and the vibe from Arcane, and Riot’s MMO will be huge.

No other MMO comes close to the sheer cool factor Riot has cultivated. All they need to do is put it into interesting classes, make sure their animations are on point, and their group material is fun. I’m seriously looking forward to it.

Is there any information about it, even? Other than the setting?

It’s hard for me to have an opinion about a LoL themed MMO when i don’t play LoL, and don’t know what it will play like.

I mean the races look cool.

The combat in BDO is so good though, I’d love to do a WoW level raid with that type of combat system.

My hands are already full with WoW and FFXIV. Can’t say I’m willing to put money down on another MMO, so I haven’t done any real research on it.

Riot has a knack for copying their competitors and doing a better job so I expect a pretty solid MMO.

I need an info dump

I will check it out when the time comes. It’s far too soon to tell how it’s going to shape up. There is almost nothing known about it in terms of gameplay yet. Just speculation.

I do have hope it’ll be decent based on ghostcrawler being a lead dev, riot having tons of money and appearing committed to making this work, and finally just how much lore and a deep world they have already created as a base. Also,
aside from basic things I want like things to do at end game, there is a lack of preestablished conditions to get me to check it out. Compare that with star wars, you’d have an incredible list of things you’d want to see in game before you give it a chance just because you’d immediately get your hopes up when hearing about a new star wars mmo. But riot largely is working with a clean slate in terms of expectations.

So in short, I think it has a shot. But I think it’s at least a full 2 years from beta, despite riot saying the in-game world is mostly done.

What game is being talked about? I see LoL being discussed. Talking about League of Legends?

Established world, established lore, established franchise with millions and millions of players. It’s what WoW was in 2004, and it will do what every MMO since the launch of WoW has been unable to do: bring fresh blood into the MMO market. MMOs are a niche market with a relatively small reach, they are not widely appealing to the larger gaming audiences. But League of Legends and Valorant have massive followings, those people are invested in the lore, and the odds they will try out the MMO are incredibly high. It’s primed to be a smash hit, as long as the game is fun to play it will be the MMO juggernaut.

Honestly not going to buy into the hype but I do hope it’s fully developed and not recycled or cancelled.

My biggest wishes for a MMORPG is they keep the MMORPG not like what wow is today a MmOrpG. I want a Path of Exiles styled MMORPG but open world like wow with complicated systems and tons of hybrid theory’s to explore and a complex action & ability system with a FAIR 50/50 Between PvE and PvP updates and additions.

Surely you’re not serious with this statement?

I doubt even 5% of league players care about the lore.

Hell.
Is it even confirmed it’s based off League?
Of course that’s a logical scenario, but it’s not confirmed. Right?
LoL is massive, maybe they want to do a smaller world.

I heard it was PvP focused which is a pass for me. I’m glad it’s not raid focused like WoW but PvP isn’t much better

Doesn’t hurt to try. I use to say the same thing about wow but it’s mainly the only reason I play it now.

Dead serious. MMOs are not popular, in the grand scheme of the entire gaming market, we are a fraction of a percent of overall players and engagement. MMOs are expensive and time consuming to make, and their appeal is low so the potential profits are a massive risk.

The amount of people who consume the lore trailers, side stories and all the other random stuff they put out says otherwise. And 5% of League’s playerbase is a hell of a lot more players than WoW currently has, so… even if they only managed to attain 5% of their playerbase, it will still be the most successful MMO launch in gaming history. And yes, it is based on their lore.

I’m not a Riot fan. I don’t play LoL, I hated Valorant, but I’m not going to pretend Blizzard is somehow more culturally relevant than Riot just because I play WoW.

I think the biggest obstacle will be staying power. MMOs really are a niche demographic, and there is a reason the titles at the top are where they are.

Riot is banking off of LoL’s appeal, not unlike WoW did with the RTS. There is one major key difference between now and 2004: The appeal of the MMO. You brought in all kinds of new blood because an MMO was one of the few instances on the net where you could socialize like that. That is what brought in players who otherwise had no interest in playing an MMO.

Now we have titans like Discord who have completely consumed that part of the market.

It will be really interesting to see a title almost replicate the launch of WoW in the modern era. So much has changed and it is impossible to say for sure what will happen.

It is overhyped.

There have been no information whatsoever, and people are hyped.

“The game have potential to take the MMO crown”
“Riot MMO will be the best thing ever!”
“If anyone can do another succesful MMO, it is Riot”

All that, and we know NOTHING about the game itself. We know of the Runeterra world and its lore and stories… but we know nothing about the game.

It is overhyped.

My nieces and nephews, who know LoL but don’t play it, got my mom into LoL videos and artwork. She, a retired woman who has never played LoL, has a Senna t-shirt that she bought herself, and she also got into Arcane before any of us told her about it.

All of my nieces and nephews friends’ know this stuff as well. My brother and I are the only ones who actually play LoL, and the people WE know who are into it, are REALLY into the lore and art and music. It is much bigger than people think. Hell, it was a huge surprise to me a few years back.

I’m of the opinion that an MMO set in Runeterra is going to be a sleeping giant.
