It’s cool. I’d like the torch range to be maybe 15-20 yards though. Also too many low geared players thinking it’s an easy catch up dungeon for them to run, and over zealous tanks who think they can run ahead and over-pull.
It would be nice if the Censor Sensors actually did something and/or lit up way more than two inches in front of you. As of now, they just seem purely cosmetic.
10/10, its an extremely well done, super fun place. Had a blast clearing it with some guildies!!
I think that the chests in there should drop Naxx event items though, the invasions are a challenge at the moment so this would help balance that out a bit.
I think this place was perfectly tuned and had the right amount of mechanics/exploration to keep it fun, but not get annoying.
We need more content like this
Def not, its good the way it is, Hunter flare def helps and is necessary as a ranged hunter would be useless in there without it.
There were multiple times, where mobs were standing within feet of us only to pop in and startle us, I think that is an amazing addition and aspect of this dungeon.
Prison boss - good
Banshee - Good
Gravedigger - good
Marrowgar Fiery Edition - Good.
Spider - pugs make this bad, like really bad if they dont know how to do the burning with torch.
FrostLich - alright who at blizz designed this trash boss, you get MC’d and can die to the red circle? Are you for real? Also managed to brick the torch flame stack mechanic once not sure how to repeat it would be good tho. MC dying to the red death and tanks getting MCd needs to be fixed ASAP. This is very unfriendly boss for pugs.
Opera - Pig/Wolfs fine, Hans and Gretel are just stupid, Hans has frontal like Azgalor from DFC and Gretels shadow balls on ground have stupid hit registration, this needs to get fixed ASAP.
Dark Rider - Seems fine, if there was a good hint on how the MC mechanic works there exists that would be great.
ohyeah please remove the hard enrages on all bosses and keep the spider one.
We had the torch debuff stop on frost lich, made the fight much easier from a mechanics only perspective. The opera boss has had some issues depending on the fight. Final boss still despawns a bunch for us too.
Still some kinks to work out.
I think it’s a failure in execution in almost every way.
Torch is an interesting idea, we’ve already seen it in retail multiple times, it’s been hated every time. Not sure who thought it was a good idea to bring it back but thanks, I hope you step on a lego every day forever.
The boss health is just, spongy. A lot of these could lose 1/4th of their hp and still be interesting fights, as is they just drag on. (Spider is fine as is imo, probably the only well tuned fight in the whole dungeon). Harbinger lasts forever for a fight with absolutely nothing happening except a gimmick one shot. Even worse, a lot of these bosses have 5 minute enrages, so even if you can do the mechanics perfectly forever, eventually you get wiped for daring to not vet your pugs.
They finally fixed the relics, visible from further away and a sparkle effect, much improved.
The Lich fight should just be scrapped and redone. Absolutely awful. Garbage design. Untested clearly. Tank gets mc’d, probably a wipe. Someone gets feared->frozen->one shot. Wipe. Torch debuff is too much on top of all this. Coordinating drops/repicks in a pug is excessive dude. You don’t even make retail players do this kind of stuff until m+ and they all have weakauras to do it for them by that point.
I’m really not sure WHO this dungeon is made for. SoD has been by and large for casual players. So I’m not sure why exactly you’d put in all these gimmicks and want people to discover? Specifically to discover that, your group sucks too hard to beat enrages now that you’re an hour and a half+ invested into the run. Like, why?
If you wanted the sweats to be challenged, it was mildly difficult when I tanked it day 1 with all the bugs in my pvp set because they don’t give enough raid loot for me to actually have a tank offset period. Now the gimmicks are solved and the only difficulty is finding people who can beat the enrage while not drooling on their keyboard, a high bar apparently.
And yes, before someone replies to ask if I’m mad, I am very mad. I am big mad. I just spent 3 hours in this dungeon leading a pug, and we can’t kill lich or dark rider because of enrage. Glad I am being punished for not having guildies online to do content with. Much appreciated. I have discovered that the dungeon sucks because it was made by people who don’t care about or play their own game, much less test the things they put in it to make sure it’s not atrocious to actually deal with it.
There is ur mistake. This dungeon is not newb friendly and most definitely a gear check. Everything you mention I’m cool with cuz its given me something to do on my decked out toon that I normally raid log on.
I would NEVER pug Crypts. I’m glad I have a guild full of fun people and haven’t had any issue clearing it other then the dame relics bugging out at times.
Khara Crypts = Good. I’ll stand on that.
I have to agree on the rng factor of MC + Red Death and enrages being too tight, while I dont think the torch management is impossibly hard, it is asking for a disproportionate amount of engagement compared to the other bosses.
Unless they nerf kara crypts, it’s definitely a gear check place. Consider it as a raid too, as you can trade loot within a time period and if you’re a dps, you easily get 1-2 shot to death if a mob is on you, which also means the tank must be geared, recommend T2 at the minimum. Also, make sure everyone repairs before going in. The spider adds will eat away a tanks shield durability so ACTUALLY DO the flame mechanics once you get a decent amount of small spiders, even if you aren’t losing any HP unless you have a backup shield/repair bot. The mini boss before the dark rider can also be annoying on some tanks with him hitting you constantly while other tanks yawn. Having classes that can debuff are a plus so try not to bring two of the same classes if you can avoid it (ex: two warlocks).
Hunters with flare and shamans with fire totems are helpful for extra light sources, and of course a shaman/paladin for threat. Any herbalist in the run, make sure to light up any flower you come across for extra light space for clearing mobs.
Discord comms is gonna be ideal to communicate. I basically recommend running only with your guildies and if you have to pug someone, just make sure they have geared as mentioned above, and agree to join comms to be able to listen to instructions as the minimum.
Do not take kara crypts lightly and bring a flask.
I also recommend NOT turning in your curio crates until the new real crates are available from the reals vendor or you’ll likely hit reals cap super fast, unless you are needing the reals to buy T2 pieces.

P.S. Our tank has been MC’ed on all our runs, its not hard to deal with
Hunter def makes things easier in there, but the MC thing never really felt like an issue.
If you are hitting enrage timers, but still executing mechanics properly, just pop world buffs and move on.
We didn’t even have issues with the mechanics outside of Lich. Literally just couldn’t beat enrage timers on Lich and Rider. I don’t understand the point of making a dungeon take an hour and a half+ in just walking around time, and then oh by the way better vet your groups and make sure they’re not barely sentient free loaders otherwise you’ll waste your lockout.
Also, my average run clear time right now is like 3 hours. There’s just literally so much walking/travel time. A bunch of the trash just has too much hp, also I’m getting sick of the bleed immunity, I’m so sick and tired of not being able to activate my set bonus for 15% damage because blizzard can’t take 2 seconds to test their content. btw Saber Slash bleed has always worked nbd. It’s just warrior/feral getting cheated.
As someone who only played Classic, TBC, and Wrath back in 2004-2010 I think Karazhan Crypts is quite easily the best 5 man dungeon they’ve made. Hats off.
Yeah it’s kind of hard to name a lot better. Take UBRS for example. Much more iconic but Khara is a better dungeon experience
Now to be fair, it was made 20 years ago and Khara had the benefit of the lessons learned.
