I used to support it until my eyes have been opened and seen it’s used to launder dirty gold.
Gambling in general is just a silly way of losing money.
Not sure how people go about in game but I doubt it is worth participating in just like real life gambling.
To each their own, i like to gamble, i enjoy games of chance, and Poker. That said, not sure how it would work in game.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
A sucker is born every minute.
I am not, of course, the originator of these quotes but taken together I feel there is a pretty powerful message for all to consider.
I wouldn’t have a problem with it except for that you can buy in-game gold with real money. Some people would get into trouble with it.
I don’t see any benefit to having in-game gambling. Leave that to the professional sites.
Yeah, some folks get a rush from it but I never got that.
What few times I have gambled I went in expecting to lose so while I was at it I just got all the free drinks I could toss down my gullet.
Seemed like pretty solid rational. I didn’t really lose my money; I just used it in a really indirect way to get drunk and play some card games.
I’ve seen a few methods here and there. It’s not actually against the rules as long as you avoid advertising on public channels, and you should be aware that if you get scammed Blizz won’t help you.
The latest one I’ve run into is deathrolls in Classic. As I understand it, you agree upon how much you’re going to gamble and what number you’re going to start with. Once you’re set with that, you group up, and at turns /roll 1 - X. If you hit 1 you lose. Otherwise, the other person does a /roll with what you rolled.
For example, say we agree on a 1-10000 roll for 100G.
I do /roll 1-10000 and get 5773
You then do /roll 1-5773 and get 87
I /roll 1-87 and get a 1
I lost and now owe you 100G. If I decide not to pay up, basically all you can do is tell people not to make the same mistake.
I only enjoyed in game gambling in games like New Vegas where your stats affected the game and you could get banned from the casino. (After cleaning them out).
I mean at least in Pokemon Red / Blue I could get a porygon
With the ability to buy gold via real money (in a legit way) its a slippery slope.
I would love to see an everquest like version that would only use earned ingame gold.
Everquest had gold for sale, though, it was just against the TOS. But it was rampant.
Sorry, plat.
I got what you meant. Same with wow… They just cut out the middleman since people will do it anyway.
And take a cut in the process.
With the ability to buy gold via real money (in a legit way) its a slippery slope.
Darkmoon faire. Have the currency be darkmoon tickets. Yes, those you can use to buy mounts and such.
You can’t buy those or trade them. The only rewards are cosmetic or heirlooms.
Maybe add a few items you can vendor for gold…
The casino always wins and there are cheaper thrills available.
I told a girlfriend that once.
I don’t think it breaks ToS but I’m personally against it. There’s kids playing the game that don’t need to be introduced to gambling, and you can buy gold with real money now. Just feels scummy all around.
Another quote “Judge Not, that ye not be judged.” is another quote if we are going to throw around things like this. I do appreciate you quoting both the King James Bible and PT Barnum though.
Came in here expecting to find a thread complaining about too much RNG in the game.
I am disappoint.
/moo
I have never bought into that judging quote, it is an instinctive trait baked into the human condition. It’s how you act on it that matters.
