So, my hunter is 8/8 in Dragonstalker gear and last night on C’thun the Carapace of the Old God dropped and I won it and with it the Striker’s Hauberk. Some say I should keep the 8/8 gear others say equip the Hauberk. What are your thoughts?
As a vanilla hunter it does not matter, because it all sucks.
All hunters should want 5/5 T2.5.
The reduction in rapid fire is great.
Before people say I’m wrong you can FD swap your entire gear set as a hunter. So you can open with an on-use like Earthstrike / Jom + rapid fire, FD swap out of 5/5 T2.5 into 8/8T2 or T3 sets. Worth if the fight is longer than 3 min. You get two rapid fires instead of one.
Doesn’t that take a debuff slot? Doesn’t stack with itself either IRC, so if you have two Hunters with 8/8, then you’re just refreshing it.
I can’t find any info on if it stacks with Sunder/Expose Armor.
Keep in mind, 16 debuff slots. If you’re sitting at 16, you’re forcing someone else’s debuff off the mob if you’re using 8/8
8/8 is trash and wastes a debuff slot. get rid of it

If you have 28 hunters with 8/8 T2 in a raid, the 8/8 T2 bonus attributes over 6000 dps alone.

If you have other hunters in your raid with full t2, and you have at least 3 hunters, it is worth keeping tier 2.
If you don’t, and/or if your raid bans Expose Weakness, then combining carapace plus the rank 10 shoulders and helm, plus ossirian’s binding and vek’lor’s gloves is a slight dps increase.
At this point however, every hunter is breaking set bonuses for tier 3, which has much stronger stats overall. The hunter discord has a cool sim you can use if you want to play with your current gear and see what pieces would be a dps increase. If you are using any pieces of tier 3 except the chest, you’ll probably want to include the striker’s hauberk anyway over tier 2.

You won’t be using 8/8 t2 anyway even in a midcore guild because of debuff slots
If the uptime of the buff wasn’t horrible 450 ranged attk pwr would be awesome. But hunters do bad dps so it’s not worth bringing enough hunters to keep the buff rolling.
