What do you all think about people who utilized private servers to play WoW?
As Blizz is getting close to releasing the only authorized version of vanilla WoW, I’ve been thinking about this.
There are people, even in this forum, who talk about playing on them. Some people on this forum even talk about returning to private servers if Blizz implements sharding or anything else they disagree with.
I think that Blizzard won’t ever seek claims against the individual cheating players for several reasons. They did, however, threaten some of the servers themselves. I understand that they need to protect their IP, it makes sense.
It also makes sense that they create their own classic server to get a piece of profits from players who want to play on them. They don’t have to go after an ethically challenged playerbase now…they can get sub fees from them instead. Elegant solution in my opinion.
For those of you who played on private servers, do you still hold that you will try classic but quit if Blizz implements “x” where x = sharding or anything else that you just absolutely loathe?
I miss the older versions of WoW but not enough to seek out a pserver.
Partly because I didn’t start in time to really get into Vanilla endgame, I didn’t cap in that expansion, close but no cigar. That combined with the transient nature of those servers. Not interested in contributing to a community that might just evaporate overnight with no really solid way to maintain those connections.
Retail also kept me entertained and more than happy up to WoD, huge break there and another at the end of Legion for quite a while.
If Blizzard ends up ruining classic by adding certain features I’ll just cut my losses and stop playing WoW altogether.
Private servers are rampant with corruption with gold sellers and server owners / GMs working together to make a profit. GMs on these private servers also play the game outside of their GM role and abuse their powers by manipulating raid loot, teleporting members of their raid around to save time, manipulating bosses mid-fights. It’s honestly pathetic and completely ruins the game.
I play on a pserver right now. When Classic releases I fully plan to abandon the pserver scene and play exclusively on authentic servers. I’m just practicing things right now. I think of pservers as just a sort of demo at this point.
Also, congratulations on posting something that isn’t an obvious troll. Happy day!
I played on private servers because there were no other alternatives. They are buggy, often lead by corrupt GMs, and worst of all, get shut down and restarted constantly.
Even if pservers are more faithful to vanilla than classic will be, I’ll still be playing classic for the three reasons I mentioned above.
I like to think that for every player on a pserver due to lack of sub fee, there are countless more that are there in order to play the specific incarnation of the game they enjoy most (sometimes with unblizzlike features). The presence of pservers with Blizzlike aims being popular (or popular enough to warrant official attention) indicates that there is a player desire for it.
If Classic launches and it is truly faithful to the Vanilla experience, I imagine a lot of the Vanilla pserver base will shrink.
If the Nostalrius/Elysium/Northdale’s of the world continue to be as popular as they are now even after Classic’s launch, I’ll take is as a combination of:
Anti-sub folk population is bigger than I expect
F R E S H folks want to keep chasing a dragon that Blizz isn’t giving at the rate they want
There is some sort of change or key aspect of the game that gives a strong non-Vanilla vibe
Not enjoying the population difference. Pserver playerbases are packed to the brim with raiders and those heavily involved in higher-end content, while I imagine Classic will have a much more general population spread.
Personally if Classic is a flop because of changes, or some silly thing blizzard does i’m done with Video games Yea i won’t deny i played on P servers for a long long time and they’re fun as heck but well. Listen to this while you read.
I do sure heck love my country, and P servers are justt a majority of EU’s and RU’s, now this doesn’t bother me myself, but EU’s just… On there? Really ain’t a fan of us Americans mostly, I don’t mind a bit of trolling here and there but i can’t tolerate foreigners constantly insulting my homeland. Sure it’s got it’s problems, but it’s still home and it’s still big beutiful country, and i woulnd’t trade her for the world. I won’t deny i’m not the best person in the world, but i ain’t the type to stand idley by while people spew hatered and unfounded facts and false hoods about her.
It’s sorta why i hate P servers, more then anything else. That’s why I love my country, and i feel like i’m betraying her by tolerating just how Hated the US is by playing on them because i have to sit through that, sure i can ignore all those folk but i don’t think that’s the answer. I think it’s fine you don’t like the Good ol USA, you can say she’s just as bad as the Red menace as they say over there.
But gosh darn it, i’m not going to sit there and watch people insult it every freaking day, and the fact you’re born here is seen as such a huge negative it’s silly, why does it matter where you are born? We are all nerds trying to play a game we love.
Eu’s On there REALLY REALLY don’t like the Red white and blue to the point where if you’re one of em it won’t always be a fun time on there, not saying that’s a majority but it does happen. I would probably re-consider P servers if wow Flopped if US had one but that’s simply impossible.
