Thoughts about archeology and more

I really wish we had a better means of study in Warcraft for past eras. Troll kingdoms. Ancient ruins beneath existing ones.

Really document and dig beneath to find more clues to the past. I went to the Painted Desert long ago and could physically touch the past on the rock layers.

I just think that with so much history. Past and present wars, we need to look no further than beneath our feet. Both geology and archaeology.

After all, those were some of my longest professions in the game. Also, I love visual representations of things that happened in the game. A proper universal neutral mega library that anyone can browse. And it in have drawings of past and present places. What was and is if we’ve not already seen them.

We’ve been teased by Timeless Isles. By relic hunting in Legion. By Korthia. By Dragonflight. Yet, these expeditions and groups are scattered. I’m thinking bigger than Lorewalker Cho. Bigger than Bronze or Infinite time flight.

But whole sections dedicated to the lore and history. A place that encompasses each era. Not housing per se. Although we probably could add to it over time. Whole sections dedicated Like to the black empire. Ancient Kalimdor. Pre sundering. Mogu empire. Original Stormwind. A museum of the past. And have big murals on display. Like WoW version of eras.

Players new and old can appreciate what is and what was. Link it to the live world so as to reference it from time to time. Always keeping it current.

I was thinking of Star Trek The Eternal Archive and this Picture I put below as inspiration.

This place could be somewhere or a some ā€œwhen.ā€ A place not unlike Darkmoon, but obviously accessible more readily. Revamp and move the Caverns of Time. Maybe the CoT gets destroyed and we find a new place to revisit the past, but also celebrate the present

It might be fun to see an expansion where we went far back in Azeroth’s history to a time when the Old Gods were fighting the elementals and their Black Empire was growing.

We saw a little of that when we were chasing Chromie and Eternus as they tumbled through time.

And we have all these little events and instances throughout the game.

But for both newer players and older players trying to recapture those moments or revisit them or just learn about them, requires a lot of travel to and far away places or things that are locked behind grinds.

Basically, a new totally different caverns of time that is more like a super library/museum all in one location and is not locked to a single expansion.

There was a natural history museum near me that used to have an amazing spiral corridor that was a continuous walk up through the fossil record alternating between real fossils (or at least casts of real fossils) embedded in the walls, side-by-side with windows into diorama depictions of what ecosystems of various eras were believed to have looked like.

The entrance to the caverns of time always reminded me of it and I was sad it never iterated upon to eventually create a full explorable history of Azeroth’s different eras as the lore was fleshed out.
