As a Mage, it appears there is no spell in the game as strong as Thought Steal.
- Instant Cast
- Lasts 20 seconds
- Nondispellable
- Makes class feel useless
- On a class with the most utility currently in the game

no counter play is really annoying
it should be a short cast or cost something or be spent when the priest uses the spell or last like 6 seconds
the dev who made it also made greater pyroblast, rain from above, and mistwalk so it should be outright removed now that he’s gone anyways

Easy fix would be to make it work like dark sim. By this I mean you have to cast it during their cast. Also like trash said make it only steal the ability for 6-8 seconds.
If they don’t want it to work like dark sim a 1 second cast wouldn’t hurt either. After these nerfs they could reduce the cd to a minute or something to compensate. This way it isn’t nerfed to the ground but has good counterplay.

The reason Thoughtsteal is so strong, is because poly is so strong. I pretty much only use it when fighting mages.
Having said that, there should be some counterplay to it. It should be a debuff on the mage that can be ice blocked off (but the priest should still have poly for the 20 seconds along with the mage).
But honestly, it should really be changed to “ThoughtBorrow”, although that doesn’t have the same ring to it. But yeah, it should give you the spell but not take it away from your enemy imo.

Priests need some buffs. We should be able to thoughtsteal convoke and spam mindgames on targets over and over. Yup. =D

yeah i can see it being annoying as a mage since thoughtsteal takes only a certain spell from each class in your case polymorph each time.
It’s annoying but it’s not gamebreaking like balance druids convoking on you for 30k+ damage within two seconds. Really, this is just whiny. You can’t sheep someone for 20 seconds, just deal.

also you can db -> ring when thought stolen
not much different than db -> poly
then again i only see mages in rmp so even with poly gone for 20 sec there’s still ample cc they can cover with so idk it doesnt seem that bad, maybe its a lot worse as mage/ele or spicy chikin to get thought stolen.
i rly like thoughtsteal vs locks tho. nothing like stealing spammable fear on a kill attempt.

Just disrupt the mage and rogue with cc is a better counter and continue to disrupt them with cc
Thoughtsteal sucks, actually found not using it is the best option. Specing into more damage is the better option as disc

This only applies to shadow but if the priest is taking thoughtsteal then he isn’t taking something else very good ( likely void origins or lasting plague). Which means his damage will be lower/much easier to stop.

as kitty we have so many stops for poly that thoughtsteal doesnt even cross my mind against rmp
the big issue is gaining pressure after their opener which dark arch is just better for, even if i stole poly it’d just be db->ring, kidney, fear, cheap, blind, or mc coming out instead. rmp has a lot to work with and it’s better to just do dmg and overwatch intervene/bolt/disorient/kick poly.

I think you can survive not casting polymorph for 20 seconds. Priests have so many good talents that fight for those spots that if it got nerfed, it’ll probably get replaced.
It’s the best thing in arena when you get to have 20 seconds without the insufferable polymorph spam
