Has anyone heard of any Thottbot resurrections in light of “WoW Classic”? It would make the nostalgia a bit more complete.

Wowhead has the rights to thottbot. Wowhead has already began implementing the comments from thottbot into their database.
If you decide to visit wowhead look at the top of the page and check the box that says classic and it will take you to the classic wowhead.

I came across this classic wow DB: classicdb.ch/?npc=589#abilities (I can’t post full links apparently).
Wowhead has become a morass of ads and feels like it is mining bitcoin in my browser. Sure, they probably have the best data, but it has become increasingly hard to consume it.

I am aware of ZAM’s (WoWhead being part of them) acquiring the rights to Thottbot and what they did with it. I guess what I was really looking for was more of the Thottbot look & feel during some of very early WoW days. Thottbot was the go to site during vanilla beta and early retail. It also reminds me of Cosmos (if recall correctly that what it was called) which contained some of the very early “must have” UI mods.
Oh the memories…

I’d rather uninstall WoW than deal with all the adds on WoWhead. Beyond obnoxious.
It’s a good thing I have more than enough memory of vanilla questing to never need such a site.

I see wowhead-classic being the “go-to” spot. Player base has become used to it. That being said I do remember having a thottbot as favorite!
I have zero issues on the site, some basic noscripting and an adblocker works wonders all over the internet.

Call me crazy, but I prefer websites where I don’t have to go out of my way to disable all the user-hostile content.

Well since that isn’t the case here, you are ok then. Plus if you aren’t running a noscript and/or a ad blocker of some kind, you are asking for trouble,lol.

What’s kind of ironic, is that if everyone ran an adblocker sites like Wowhead couldn’t exist. They make money through showing ads, and if you block them they get nothing. That’s probably why they have to show more ads now than they used to: since so many people block them they have to show 4x as many to the few people who don’t. “lol”
Irrelevant to me since I don’t actively play WoW anymore. If I did I would probably consider paying for their premium ad-free service.

Hmm… this thread has officially been derailed in to a Wowhead for/against thread.
No, I think I’m the only poster here who has “dissed” wowhead, and it is only because of their excessive ads. They are, without a doubt, the best wow database on the interwebs.
I still haven’t been able to find a reliable DB of quest rewards for classic/vanilla.
Would be nice to have tier based BIS lists too. Since we have pseudo custom tiers.
yah thats the funny part of it, but for some people that is an acceptable solution.
and no they do not show more ads than they used to, not sure where that would even come from, the issue people would have was the ad network being overly aggressive, not the amount of them, but like most anything, people would rather complain instead of reporting issues to a site.

I don’t know, maybe you’re right. I remember them always having ads, but years ago I felt like it was a “normal” amount of ads, and now it is multiple ads per page. Maybe it’s just that every ad has animation/video now and makes them more distracting.
Or, maybe they’ve changed the layout in such a way that pushes the content down. There is a LOT of wasted space at the top of their site now.
