I was wandering in murlocs land close to Theramore for a quest and i spot multitude of mages aoe grinding those murlocs. Me being a good guy, i give them wisdom so they perform better and even heal them, just one of them gave me int buff and the same guy was feeling generous and gave me snacks and drinks.
Anyway, i try to get a murloc and one of them blink in, dont even leave me one mob to get and start do his thing. I get tilted, turn around and look for another spot, they respawn, grab one and it agro another, i was like ok i get to kill two, while i autoattack one to death, the mage that give me food and int buff come in and tag the 2nd murloc on me and do his thing. I had enough, i move the tag murloc away from him so he don’t frost nova him and the mob manage to put his dot on him. While he was blizzaring, he didn’t even check that hes was gonna die from the dot. I could have dispell it or heal him, but no, i watch him die with a smile, dont even rez him, hes gonna walk back.
Get my murloc back and got his head for my quest and then a duo priest/rogue horde apes gank me at 20% hp.
So yeah, i hate those farmer mages and want to level a rogue to camp them now lol.
I had a similar experience with a mage. It was a horde mage AoE grinding on the skeletons at sorrow hill in WPL. As you know, there is a quest there to kill 10 of each skeleton, and I couldn’t get a single mob after trying for a while. This was on a pve server by the way.
So what did I do? I flagged myself and tried to stand in his blizzard! I could never get him to accedentally flag himself, but every time I did it, he’d have to run away and reset all his mobs. Eventually, he got so angry he made an alliance alt to curse me out. I see this as an absolute win!
Us mages have nothing against you lesser mortals we merely wish to gain xp in the shortest fastest way possible and if the only way to do so is offending those along the way then so be it
If they are opposite faction, gank. It’s super easy to give them a repair bill if they are aoe grinding.
If they are same faction, grab extra mobs and pull into their aoe. This sometimes kills them, sometimes has the mage killing things for you. Either way you win. A lot of mages also like to body pull to round them up, so you can steal tags while they are gathering to aoe.
As you pull extra mobs for them, make sure you hit them first a little, so you can loot them later LOL, got consecration?
Also, roll a warlock and if you see a mage doing AOE to steal the quest mobs? just cast AOE fear in the middle of the Blizzard, once they are scattered, the mage will likely die LOL
Saw a few out there aoe grinding the murlocs while in flight a day or so ago. I think I’ll go out there and rain on their parade a few hours this weekend, heh.
What you don’t realize is that you just happened upon the singular leveling spot for mages in your level range. There are 2 other islands filled with murlocs, and an entire coastline. Those areas cannot be AoE farmed - go there. Don’t go to the one island overflowing with nothing but dozens of melee mobs convienently packed together.
The other thing you don’t realize - when you kill mobs one by one you end up utterly destroying the mage’s leveling. They kill off a third of the island at a time… and then go to the next third. And then the last third. By this point the first third has respawned all at once, and the rest of the island is totally empty and the mage can move freely as needed to kite the mobs.
Killing one by one leads to mobs randomly respawning uncontrolllably all over the island. It’s horribly frustrating, and for some reason even seems to drastically slow the spawn rate of the mobs. I had a warrior stop by that island you are talking about while I was leveling there… and despite him killing 1 mob for every 20 I killed within minutes the island was barren of mobs and I was forced to single target mobs one by one as they popped up. I eventually just went afk until the whole island respawned and the warrior realized just what he’d wandered into. At that point I just invited him, did a single AoE pull, and sent him on his way… quest complete.
Again though, a leveling mage simple cannot do that for everyone. It’s like asking a healer leveling via dungeon runs to run something 10 levels below them. It’s not really helpful.
When you come across mages dominating an area like this, there are almost always alternative areas the mages won’t (or can’t) be using. Even the pirates of tanaris have plenty of spots the mages don’t touch - the freebooters are impossible to fight in an AoE pull, so any part of the area with freebooters is avoided.
That’s kind of rude considering there were multiple Mages, and the one who not only Buffed you but gave you Food and Water, could have been trying to save/protect you from the extra Murloc!
It’s true people enjoy being annoying just because they can be. every single aoe mage grind area in the entire game has multiple areas where you can finish quests that aren’t in the spot we are in like the above poster saying he can’t get his zombies in western plague lands. Bologna. There’s so many spots with zombies in that region it’s ridiculous that you have to troll someone who’s just trying to reach 60 just because you feel like you want to farm the one specific spot we are in which just so happens to be the most densely packed area, what are you going to do warrior or warlock, fight the packed 6-7 mobs? There’s plenty of spaced out mobs to choose from honestly just annoying
When i was prot at sorrow hill while a mage was AOE grinding the skeletons, i found that holy shield pulls his mobs away from him unless he had done damage, he eventually got pissed an tried to gank me but since he was still on their aggro tab when i bubbled they all charged him, lol.
I remember questing in duskwood for worgen and found an area with the worgen I needed, turns out its got crazy respawn rates and where everyone was at to get the ones they needed. Also turns out every mage around thought they would also farm it. I went in, tried to offer grouping up, got ignored. I then went to take my time and kill what I could.
I get whispered by a mage “hey I’m going to farm here, you might wanna come back later” I am stunned, that’s a bit brazen of an attitude. He immediately tries to grab things regardless of who is after them, so I help by getting more mobs and bring them to his aoe. he ice blocks, but I am running far enough away myself, and have a pet out. I kite them a bit until he gets out of ice block (he cancelled it early once they started to run to me) I hit FD and watch them kill him. was glorious, he whispered “dude wtf, I told you to leave” /ignored
look, I don’t care if you wanna aoe grind and level as fast as you can and play the game likes its retail by solo leveling, but if your in an area and someone comes in to quest, help them in some way, don’t be an ahole about it. help them, its a social game, don’t think your superior because you can aoe grind, I promise your attitude going to leave an impression just as theirs does. If you are in an area with other areas for their quest, let them know, they may not know about that, don’t assume.
I was in Tanaris doing some questing and a mage with 10% hp comes blinking by. I healed him and he told me 2 ally mages were camping the pirates in the south.
We group up and head down there, clear out the allies, and he AoEd all of my quest mobs down for me.
Hi #metoo but I has solution! This takes patience & skill. This is not a task for the weak. The rewards are bountiful and thrilling.
Step 1. Observe AOE mages route… they typically go in a derpadee circle counting down respawn timers.
Step 2. Try to get behind the pack of mobs you know they’re going to aggie.
Step 3. Soon as you see derpadee start to engage mobs run in and lay down your own AOE spell or melee tag s many mobs as possible.
Step 4. Make sure you guide said mobs into derpadees pack.
Step 4. Sit back & watch as derpaadee spends all his mana killing 2-3 more mobs for you then you’d normally take on at once.
Step 5. I forgot to mention try to stand close to derpadee and /lol /lol /lol /cheer at them so tagged mobs will keep in sync with derpas.
I’m rolling a fire spec because I like booms. Yeah, it’s not levelling efficient but the explosions are so much fun. Jerks are in any class. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve gotten half through Pyroblast when a druid runs in and tags my mob or a warrior charges it or a rogue chucks a dagger as he runs past me.
