Recently hit 60 on my PvE Hunter alt for Classic (brings back some memories from Vanilla WoW), & was just wondering what other Hunters on various servers pay for Thorium Arrows/Shells these days, assuming that you aren’t an Engineer. Seems like paying 20+ gold (from AH) per full 16-slot quiver of these is a bit steep for +4.5 DPS gain over Jagged arrows (which costs 1.5 gold to restock a quiver). Are Thorium Arrows/Shells only really practical for hardcore "Parse-PvP’ raiders, engineers, gold-buyers & super/bot-farmers? What’s your experience on this? Thanks.
I think you answered your own question.
You always pay a premium to get the best. It’s up to you to decide if you want to have the best available or if you’re comfortable being suboptimal.
get honored with av and get ice arrows if you run low on mula
Gold isn’t really hard to get, especially for a Hunter. Also as has been said, you can get ice arrows from AV.
You can always farm Doomshot instead:

Keep 4 or 5 stacks of the good stuff, for when you need the extra punch. Fill the remaining slots with affordable ammo to burn.
You can also put each on two open hot bars to switch on the fly, or when you run out of ammo in a fight.
And yea, in a dungeon or raid, the good stuff tends to crit bigger, so for me it’s worth it. But then again, my hunter is an engineer.
Best advice I can give you.
Thorium bullets got my alts their mounts/epic mounts.
I sell the arrows from anywhere between 1.2g-1.6g/stack. Sometimes the market dips and I just wait til it recovers to list mine again.
