Bale was awesome but it wasn’t that good. It felt like forced comedy but also wanted to be a horror movie. And also why bale became the bad guy is the most cliché thing that happens in 1000 other movies. Fake out deaths that mean zero. I won’t ever understand why people think this is good cinema.

That’s comic books for you. Lex Luther hated Superman for life because he thought Superman did something to cause one of Luther’s experiments to backfire making him bald.
At least that was the story back in the Silver Age.
It’s not respecting the character’s design.
Even so the comparisons would be there kind of like how MoP copied Kung Fu Panda comparisons in spite of Pandarens being created before the movie .
Voldemort was in the Harry Potter books and movies before Gorr was even in the comics
To some extent they are all copying the monsters Homer created for the Odyssey. Or maybe it’s the monsters Steven Moffat created for the 11th Doctor, hard to tell what with the time travel.
I don’t feel that way at all. The Gorr stuff was darker toned but definitely not horror. Most of the film is definitely not horror. It’s not like Strange 2 that was just recalling all of Raimi’s corny horror hits.

I found it very mediocre and disappointing which seems to be par for the course with Marvel these days. I’m starting to think Marvel should have gone on hiatus for a few years once Infinity War ended.

In the comic books Odin offered her Godhood and immortality (as far as that goes for Asgardians, they seem to die a lot) so she could marry Thor, she wimped out turned it down. So they wiped her memory and sent her back to Earth.
I very much enjoyed the movie with its comedy and excellent soundtrack, but the story felt rushed or as though too much was edited out for the sake of keeping a 2 hr run time.
The biggest drawback, however, was a lack of meaningful combat. Sure there was some fighting going on, but when it came to the fights between opponents that mattered, suddenly the combat was woefully brief or not shown at all.
It’s like if Rocky IV had shown Balboa and his trainers beating up several teams of Russian agents throughout the movie only to have Rocky KO Ivan Drago 2 minutes into the first round.
The clash between Thor and Zeus could have been on par with Thor vs Hulk, and not showing us Sif’s defeat was a massive missed opportunity to demonstrate Gorr’s power and ruthlessness.
Ultimately, this was still a fun movie that I can’t wait to watch again, but adding another 30 minutes to an hour to flesh out the story and add more weight to the battles that matter would work wonders for Love and Thunder. Here’s to hoping Waititi gets the green light to “Snyder cut” this film to elevate it to its true potential.

I’m not a big Waititi fan. Too much silliness. He makes Thor a clown. I’m hoping the action and the CGI will be great.
The comic was really good. Can the flick make up for the lack of the other 2 Thors (old King Thor and young Thor will the axe)? Comics Gorr was far too powerful to be beaten by the team we see in the trailers.
I’m wondering if the movie drastically toned down Gorr’s anti-god talk so as not to offend the religious community?

I don’t feel like that’s a just reason to be hated. It’s her choice as to who she wants to marry. Wiping her memory because of it is pretty gross though. But Odin always was terrible.

Ya the tv shows from Marvel FOR ME have been reallllly lackluster. Dr Strange 2 was forgettable compared to 1. And the whole way they design these properties is missing most of what made their character building, story building, fun and interesting in the past.
I doubt many people remember that old storyline from the comic books anyway. She’s a completely different character in the movies.
I liked it, but it could have used at leats another 45 minutes for some back story on the big bad, more with the Gurdians, even more in depth in the Valkyrie origins and relationships tbh. I mean even 30 minutes would have carried it quite a bit more.
