Sure, leveling is easy, but it’s basically impossible to catch up to your main if you start playing an alt now. There are too many missed vaults to be competitive, and the crests and valor are a massive grind. Mythic+ needs a better catch up system. For example, if you miss a vault, you should be able to take multiple vault items until you catch up. Additionally, crests should give twice the amount after you’re missing so many, and the same should apply to valor.
It’s not terrible if you have a group of friends who are willing to carry you through dungeons to quickly gear you up but if you’re a solo player like 85% of the people who play this game, making an alt basically means you’re starting from heroic dungeons and working your way up again and it just feels like such a grind that I don’t want to do it. I want alts but I just don’t have the time or energy to do the entire grind once again. I am not looking for handouts, I just want to be able to jump into hard content on my alts. Warbound gear was a cool idea but you should let it scale to Hero track or maybe just give us a currency we can buy loot boxes to send to our alts like PVP has/had.
All they have to do ot make this expansion more alt friendly is make valor stones transferrable. I am CONSTANTLY maxed out on my main with nothing to spend them on. I used undercoin to gear my one alt out so I could head straight into 4s but jiminy christmas the valorstones are like squeezing blood from a turnip.
I really want to see valorstones go byebye or be treated like a transferrable currency. THe crests can stay as they are since they are easy to get.
I said this in beta, when they first announced the increased myth tracks.
It went from 48 keys to 95 keys in time to deck out 6/6 myth gear which only drops at 1/6. Last season it dropped at 2/4 myth and thats why it was half the upgrade cost. Those numbers should be pretty close it’s been a while since i looked at them.
I said warbands are pointless if you just made it less friendly to gear each character with no discount for the next. They eventually did a 30% crest discount for alts recently, but most of TWW that was not in place.
Even a 30% crest and 50% valor stone discount for alts is still more work than alts were in Season 3 of Dragonflight. I enjoyed gearing lots of toons in s3 dflight. I only did a single M+ toon this season and only to 2k io for mount (due to all the other awful changes to M+ making it not fun). I have no desire to run alts thru M+ in this current system.
Meanwhile the PvP team did great. Alts are nice and quick to gear/catchup and play. By a large magnitude compared to PvE. I have 7 toons ranging from 1800 to 2400 in PvP this season.
They still havn’t learned this community doesn’t want 1 main and 3 alts. We want 4 mains. We don’t want to try another spec and never exceed 80% power on said alt because we don’t have months of vault loot on myth track. We want all our toons we play to be putting our best foot forward into M+ with our friends.
It sucks that if we wanna swap class in a friend group we will forever be behind for wanting to enjoy something different.
WoW team need to wake up and realise this. Warbands are pointless without more alt friendliness for things that actually MATTER.
Easy or Easier? the time spent on alts is significantly lower than it used to be. Every part of having alts feels better in some fashion. Sure you have to do some weekly content for Valorstones, and perhaps sometime in the future they decide to make improvements to it. Right now you have to do some open world content, world quests, etc. to get them.
But I think acting like this isn’t a huge step in the right direction is disingenuous.
I main swapped after 7 weeks from this monk to a warrior. It took me about 3 weeks to catch up and pass my old main in both gearing and m+ scoring. It was a rough 3 weeks but idk if I would agree fully here. The valor stone piece i definitely agree with. Very starved on my other alts and delves don’t give many.
I’m still in the camp that character progression does matter so I’m not sure that my 630 warrior guarantees that all my other toons are rewarded with gear they didn’t really earn on their own. Just my take on it. It sort of removes the “main v alt” identity if they’re all just the same.
This monk isn’t really that geared though. Imagine someone like this hunter I am on, with mostly myth track gear. In order to “catch” up to this hunter you would need to get a mythic piece you needed from each vault for 6 weeks.
You can have 7 or 8 636 ilvl crafted slots right now from just running 8s. That’s only 3 below max for tier. You don’t need the vault to be competitive especially when we still have ~3 months left of the season. The crests being a grind doesn’t make it a non-viable option.
If you want two mains, then of course it’s going to be a slog. TWW has been great for gearing alts, characters that are supposed to be in gear 1/2 difficulty rings lower than your main. If you’re trying to get a second main, then yeah, it’s gonna take a while.
Honestly It’s just the willingness to do 10’s or not. I have a 80 of every class except rogue and near all of them are at least 610ilvl now from vault weeklies. Some are approaching 620. It’s not that hard.
Same here, but doesn’t change the fact your warrior will still always have a higher gear ceiling than your monk. Assuming you were still collecting your weekly myth track.
Just get rid of them, IMO. If I farm enough crests for an upgrade, then clearly I’m capable of doing the content to upgrade–I don’t know why there needs to be a secondary form of currency beyond it that I have to worry about farming.
Blizzard seems to have a hard time letting go of the idea that there doesn’t need to be annoying grinds to play this game. Most of us would be happy to level/gear a handful of alts if we didn’t have to focus all of our energy on 1 or 2.
If you are doing heroic dungeons to gear up an alt right now, why?
I was able to get to 80, and then 610 by the first vault after hitting 80 on my hunter. Just do your weekly stuff, then do the anniversary stuff, LFR, use keys from BRD lfr to upgrade your lowest ilvl piece. That should get you to ~595-600 with the crests you have available as well.
Then you should be able to do tier 8 delves, which will push to around 605 if you grab the free 619 enchanted rune from the storymode raid quest.
After that, you are ready to find a normal pug and push for 610. At 610 it should be easy enough to find a heroic raid group.
Crests, crests are where the f problem is. I dont even wanna do the gilded crest grind on my main.
TWW S1 has both alts friendly and alts unfriendly. M+ gives you a small amount of crests and how long it takes you to get them. Blizzard didn’t implement any catchup mechanics for the crests and valorstones.
When you gear your alts or you are a latecomer, you have to spend a lot of time doing that. A lot of players a casual player who has jobs, family and stuff. The crest grind is 100% impossible to retain 1+ characters. If you don’t start from the start of the season, there’s nothing to do to keep up with the people. You have to spend a lot of time with LFG to find a group to farm crests and valorstone. The best way to spend gilded crests is getting crafted gears, you need 8 timed dungeons for 636 crafted gears. The problem is that alts and latecomers are 619 complete with 620-625 with 2400-2600 IO for +8. +8 is the best way to farm gilded crests.
I strongly believe that valorstone should be completely removed, crafted gears should cost 60-75 gilded crests and Blizzard should design the catchup mechanics for crests. I could list way more problems with M+ but this thread is about alts.
Maybe so but I’ve raided and really don’t care for it (to each their own) and I’m not sure who is gearing from raid only. Like not even doing keys to supplement. Maybe if you’re in a guild that supports your main swap and funnels to you in heroic. Idk. You’d still need crests though.
At this point if you main swap and only gear from raid you’re gimping yourself if you’re motivated to gear.
