This weeks set of Maldraxxus Covenant story/quests

Anyone fairly annoyed with being talked down to while helping out another covenant AND THEN having one of your main covenant guys talking about defecting.

I specifically avoided direct details and names for spoilers purposes

Sorry, deleted! But I stand by my point. I didn’t mind it.

The attack on Bastion was horrific - a lot of Kyrians ended up dead, the Hand of Courage ended up warped into a monster before getting killed, and many Kyrians and Stewards ended up getting torn apart and resewn into constructs. Even if it was done by traitors to Maldraxxus, they’re entitled to at LEAST be ornery towards the people whose watch it happened on, even if they’re helping clean that mess up.

Also Alexandros’s confusion is one shared by many in the playerbase, and it ends up giving the character depth. Were I a paladin, I too would be confused over why I wasn’t sent here like one of the original five was. It draws a very clear difference between the two realms AND Alexandros ends up appreciating Maldraxxus even more afterwards.

If people didn’t wanna get spoiled, then they shouldn’t click on a thread labeled “THIS WEEK’S set of story/quests.” You can also put (SPOILER) in the title of the thread.

Huh, that’s weird. Kyrian side entirely talks UP Maldraxxus.

It seems like the major difference I gathered between “Duty” Maldraxxus and “Duty” Bastion is merely where a person’s duty stems from. If its from personal relations like Alexandros, and would decay without them … going to Undead land! If its more “abstract” and “higher purpose”, and you have memories that are actually impeding your natural sense of duty … Bastion.

The major issue is that Bastion took this fundamental principle and seems to have dogmatized it and went too far. The goal being “removing only the memories that would prevent you from doing your damned job properly” and changed to “removing all memories in general”.

One of the daily Callings in Ardenweald has one of the NPCs talking about how Maldraxxus has been nothing but staunch allies in the past and sends us to go help defend maldraxxus (doing world quests and such).

Weird that it’s the oppposite for those who joined the Maldraxxi convenant

Did… you mean to reply to me, I’m a little confused

Yeah, but I went off on a tangent. Mostly, I don’t know if upselling Maldraxxus was the point … just trying to notate the difference between it and Bastion. Since they both serve very “Cogs in the Machine” roles for the afterlife.

Xandria, I think her name is, has some dialogue like, “Your kind has a lot to answer for.” It’s just weird, like the people that write the dialogue forgot that the player isn’t really part of those covenants, and also gained the favor of all four. Eh, maybe she got her memory wiped again.

I think it’s a good analysis that does explain what’s been deeply bothering me re: Migraine.

I still don’t really like these afterlives as a whole though.

I think Grandblade brings up a good point that it was pretty dang awful what happened to the Temple of Courage (was it courage?) and even if someone logically knows the Necrolords weren’t involved it would be hard not to be grumpy about it to all Maldraxxi. Emotions aren’t logical, they’re emotional.

That said I’m in the Kyrian and I didn’t read or hear a single thing downtalking the Necrolords during our quests this week. Xandria never so much as implied that she had a problem working with them. That’s a weird disconnect.

That’s because all the convenants are aware that the system is broke and for countless eons the Necrolords/Maldraxxi have been nothing but staunch allies. Even the NPCs of Ardenweald are aware of what’s going on in Maldraxxus, yet send you there to help them out and get things back in order.

(It’s one of the random Callings you can get)

I know, but if she’s angry at the Necrolords for the evil houses’ attack in the Necrolord campaign but has nothing bad to say about them in the Kyrian campaign, it’s weird. I assume both campaigns are just the same quest this week; Kyrian was attacking the House of Constructs alongside the Necrolords, was that the Necrolord quest too?

To add to my earlier post, Xandria in Bastion seems completely different when she comes to Maldraxxus at the end of the quest chain. She refers to the player as Maldraxxi while questing together, then when meeting with Draka to discuss an alliance, she’s like “I see the Maw Walker is with you. I trust their choice in you.”

Just feels like two different people writing her, neither of them on the same page.

I think you’re onto something. In addition to what you noted, Migraine suddenly brings up the runeblade as part of the quest, which as Kyrians, we’ve left unused since the mid-50s.

Feels like there were two different quests written together to save resources (since it’s a more involved quest than the previous weeks).

It’s like the disconnect between the Horde version of Stormsong Valley, and the Alliance version.

Of course, it’s very possibly the result of different writers and lack of communication. We have the classic example of Garrosh Honorscream in Stonetalon vs Garrosh Crazyscream in MoP to show us that the writers aren’t always on the same page regarding story and character development.

Venthyr both talk up and down Maldraxxus depending on who’s speaking. Renathal has a hugely positive opinion of the Necrolords, while the Accuser deems they’ve failed and have to be corrected.

Thank you for that. I haven’t gotten to my Maldraxxus alt yet

You know, for as gloomy as he is when he talks to you, Renathal is a pretty positive guy in general. Even thinks Denathrius can be saved after all he’s done.
