"This user's public profile is hidden."

Do consider this to be slightly disingenuous.

Why?

I do it because it’s nobody elses business.

you can still get to their armory, it’s just not as convenient. Just use the url below and replace server and name with the person you’re trying to look up.

Apparently my profile was set to hidden and I had no idea, thankfully someone pointed it out.

Personally, I got nothing to hide. I don’t get why someone would want to hide their profile. Then again I never understood why people posted on level 1-10 alts.

If I had a say in anything, you would be able to see all the characters that player has when clicking their profile and you would not be able to hide it. That’s just me.

That’s a fair call.

But if you create or reply to a forum topic then it becomes everyone’s business.

Why can’t a persons words be sufficient for listening?

I have never looked a person up (except to see xmogs). If their words are insufficient, it doesn’t matter what their profile looks like. On the other side, if their words are sufficient, it doesn’t matter what their profile looks like.

And that’s a privacy issue, which is why Cogshanks was forced to be broken.

Why do people care one way or another? 99% of the time there’s no useful information to be had at looking at someone’s profile.

The only real reason I can think of for it is if someone is having a stalker problem and don’t want to have every single one of their posts tracked down and attacked.

As someone popular on social media, I don’t want this character to be associated with my social media.

Not any moreso than resorting to an armory attack.

I’ve been armoury attacked numerous times.

I don’t play this character, but I’ve had over 20k posts within the customer support forums.

Considering criticism of a given topic, you would want to know what expierence the person has in it.

Example: I say that mythic + is awesome and nothing should change. But if you look at my profile, I have never done a key beyond +6… So my validity on a subject goes out the window…

It is the same with auto mechanic… Do you want an opinion of a guy who knows how to drive only, or who can fix thing?

This was more where my thought process was going.

Well maybe, maybe not but if so, only in that the thread relates to armory information. For instance if I started a thread about pet battling is more fun than doing WQs, you don’t really need anything in my armory.

No, but I believe most start out as hidden by default, at least mine was hidden, and I had to unhide it. Not sure if many have moved towards checking it out yet.

u got 23 view so far!

Often a poster will make a claim that is inconsistent with their achievements.

For instance, people would often post during Legion that they had done lots of world quests, but never gotten a legendary. Looking at a profile that shows the player has done only 500 world quests account-wide tells us that they haven’t played nearly as much as they think they have, or they’re just trolling us.

Pretty sure they default to not being hidden.
