This Really Bums Me Out

So, on the WoW reddit, someone linked a video that I won’t link here (people get flag happy). You can search it yourself… it’s called “The Perfect Cinematic Does Not Exi-” by Loy Meets World (“who?”… go ahead, get it out of your system. I hadn’t heard of him either)

The video basically talks about how the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic is the closest thing we have in gaming to the perfect cinematic. He breaks down the parts of the cinematic, including themes, music, Arthas’ placement in the environment, everything. He also includes some interviews with Russell Brower (the former Sr. Director of Audio and Composer of WoW) who describes their thought process on the music of the cinematic.

It was very interesting, however… it made me sad. WoW used to have so much thought and intention behind it. Now I just feel like the story is just cobbled together to fit whatever esport they want to push at the time; whatever will make money. And I know… wow, a corporation wants to make money, surprise surprise. However there are many games out there by studios that want to make money while simultaneously wanting to make a game their players will enjoy.

It makes me depressed knowing that Wrath Classic, which is something I was personally looking forward to, will absolutely be ruined the way BC Classic was ruined. Boosts and store mounts and everything. I’m aware the Celestial Steed came out in Wrath.

I’m sure the usuals will come out and defend everything that WoW currently is, but just watching that video made me very sad and miss the days when the game was the best for me.

You mean the ending where we get a few words? That was a huge letdown cinematic when I was so hyped for a closure to the Warcraft III story.

Huh?

You are talking about Arthas lying down and asking if it is over, right?

No, the opening cinematic. “My son, the very day you were born, the forests whispered the name… Arthas”

Ah, my bad. That was pretty good. I personally like the Deathwing intro cinematic the most.

Yeah, that was super hype at the time. I was soooo stoked for Cataclysm.

My personal favorite of the cinematics was Warlords of Draenor actually. lol

Makes no sense what-so-ever.

And yes I agree their attention to a better story, etc is lacking. It’s really only the fault of the current team and their writing lead who helps come up with these stories post Legion.

It’s all a very big hack-fest of writers.

We need proper world builders, writers, story-detail orientated people to lead WoW back into a ‘slightly’ better road.

Right now Danuser and friends are pretty much ruining the game’s lore.

I really loved that cinematic as well. But to me has to be Legions cinematic. What a great cinematic right before a death of an amazing character.

Posting the video, so people can have reference:

Also because I like watching it, and it does make me want to go back to the way Wrath was, and how WoW was back then.

Folks always say this: “Blizzard is out to make money first!”

And I agree.

But it seems like they would make the most money when the business decisions are in lock step with making quality expansions.

In other words, it seems like the most money would be made when the game is made to be great.

That was worth watching. Thanks for sharing.:+1:

Well there’s good news there, because the jailer is actually the close of the WCIII chapter.

Cata I thought

The good ole days!

Exploring the zones, the music, the awe factor, the build up to the lich king was incredible. Nothing has compared since for raids or the game in general imo. Sweaty, passionate nerds were making WoW then!

I do not have an issue with ppl selling carries for gold - but it’s become out of control, I will admit.

Now I wanna read my Arthas book again by Christie Golden.

The cinematics of bfa were just as good as anything else they have made over the years. That part of blizzard has always been top notch.

That’s one thing that has sorely been missing this expansion.

I still remember being a noob and just being stunned at all the damage Deathwing did. Like seeing the old zeppelin tower in Org collapsing. It was the first expansion I got to see launch since I joined late into Wrath. Sooooo I got a bit of a soft spot for it.

That is really good, I like this one and the one with Tajani and the boats.
