Do mouse over macro’s help in arena? Do you have to have the mouse over the target the whole time? Like if I’m not targeting the player I want to use my macro in, and I mouse over them and start casting, will it cast even after I move my mouse or they move from where my pointer was after the cast starts?

I don’t think mouseover macros are too common. You might see them for totem stomping or something?

So long as you correctly had the mouseover when the cast began that’s all you need. That cast is now @ that target assuming they were a valid target.

I have this on my mage for random BG’s where I’m not going to have macros to dispel people. IIRC it works properly on mouseover, and if i don’t have a mouseover target it just casts it as a default. Which is to self cast due to combat options.

There’s usually better ways to format this type of macro. I suck at writing macros.

I guess a more functional example is my focus macro.

/focus [target=mouseover]
#showtooltip Will of The Forsaken

Just sets focus to my current mouseover. Good for Wpvp and bgs.

What ever helps you play more comfortably/faster.

I have a mouseover frost shock macro that I prob use once a week lol but I use M/O for

  • off healing teamates because im too lazy to put in names/use @party 1/2 .
  • Mouseover Decurse
  • Mouseover purge (mostly for Mind control on allies)
  • Mouseover thunderstorm (when im using the PvP talent)

Something like flame shock tho I have @arena 1-3, and a bind for a target flame shock if a mouseover doesn’t exist (most to mouseover flame shock pets)

They def help imo

Would highly suggest using self/party12 and arena123 macros for just about everything.

Some mouseover macros can be helpful though.

I have mouseover overrides on most of my macros, they come in handy but ive always used them. Arena123 and party macros work just as well, so it call comes down to preference

I used to use mouse over blind but stopped cause sometimes i lose track of my cursor and blind the wrong target kek

The moment you cast with your mouse over the target would act like it was tab targeted. You don’t have to follow target with mouse. Mouse over is v good for instant/casted aoe’s but instant single target I wouldn’t recommend
