Well, I’ve got to hand it to them. This is the smoothest launch I’ve ever witnessed in all my time playing WoW, from the Wrath Pre-patch to the end of Legion, and now all of Classic. The only friction I experienced was sitting in a ~1,000-person queue, which took about two minutes. I loaded in with no problems, no crashes, and was able to play for nearly 16 straight hours without any catastrophic issues.
Maybe I shouldn’t be impressed by this part, but I even ported my UI that I had built from the Forever beta, and that’s worked almost perfectly. I have a few addons that I probably shouldn’t be using just yet because they weren’t even technically supported on the beta, and the worst of it is that they were throwing some LUA errors.
There are only a couple issues that I experienced that were abnormal:
- Some sort of desync issue where I can see people in combat with enemies that aren’t there on my screen. And sometimes, people would be standing next to enemies almost like ghosts, where the enemies wouldn’t aggro even though the players were standing RIGHT on them.
- For the last couple hours, I’ve noticed that inventory stuff like looting has been a little slow.
I’m pretty sure that aside from these things, this launch was basically perfect. I’m not a huge fan of how aggressive the shars/layers are being with separating people right now, but credit where it’s due. They launched more or less perfectly on time, with minimal waiting or friction, and no issues that made the game unplayable, and kept it running that way for the whole first day.

I really hope this signals the direction Blizzard and the WoW team are taking things in the future. Up till now, I’ve been very happy with like 90% of all the stuff they’ve been saying, and the decisions they’ve made with the game. And now we’ve got an immaculate launch that kinda proves how much work has been poured into this. To be clear, I’m not just glazing Blizzard as a fanboy – I’ve taken a very pessimistic stance on Blizzard and Microsoft in general in recent years, and when they actually give us a game worth playing, I think it’s something they should be recognized for. I’m super excited.
Edit: Another thing I didn’t mention – Again, maybe I shouldn’t be so impressed, maybe this isn’t a good measure to judge the launch by, but my framerate was basically always 120-144 (with V-sync on a 144hz monitor) no matter how long I played, and no matter what situation I was in. I was pretty floored by how well the beta was handled, and even there I had to deal with chugging framerates pretty often. This was buttery smooth for my entire session!
