This isn't FUN anymore

Hello,

I, like many others, have been playing somewhat hardcore for sometime with a decent IO; pushing mythics (17s, 18s etc.) for the past 2-3 months, non-stop. Due to my “unlucky” streak, I’ve only gotten some decent 400 and sometimes, 410 pieces to somewhat keep me afloat competing against my peers who have mostly gotten rather great luck with their 420+ pieces and reliable chest loot.

I have to admit it has become absolutely frustrating and demoralizing to open a chest after a tremendously hard week of work (in this case, pushing high level mythics) only to receive either a piece I already have or something absolutely useless to me.

This system is tilting.

It seems hard work and skill cannot even counteract RNG. Watching these low IO players with ridiculous 420+ pieces is so disheartening when you work your butt off trying to even compete out of sheer skill. Yes, in a sense it IS satisfying to beat people in higher gear scores than you, but jeez, pride aside, what the hell is the point of working so hard only to be held back by the game’s idiotic loot system?

Do something?

It boils down to: RNG gearing is garbage.

Edit - I have to edit before I get hit with the “its always been RNG”. No, not on this level. Opening a random box that has random loot is not fun. Give the players something to work toward.

The overbearing RNG in BFA is undoubtedly poisonous for the game. WOW is an MMORPG and every MMORPG is going to have RNG, but it determines entirely too much of the player’s experience in modern WOW. I missed the amount of RNG that was in Vanilla and BC.

To offset that terrible feeling after doing numerous high M+ and receiving nothing time and time again, I believe that there should be residuum awarded at the end of every run. If this were a thing I imagine a lot more people would be doing high keys and more frequently.

I don’t do a lot of M+ content so I may be ignorant, but does the vendor not solve the problems here?

I’m in the same boat. Pushing 16s and 17s and I’m only 409. Haven’t had an upgrade from my chest in well over a month.

It’s just RNG and bad luck, but still a bit frustrating when you see your buddy get his 5th 420 with perfect stats and a socket. You’re happy for them but wish rngeesus would show you some love.

At the same time, I have got several of the dungeon mounts though. Rng is going to rng.

New loot system in 9.0 though? Please, Blizzard.

“it determines entirely too much of the player’s experience in modern WOW.”

Best explaination ive heard concerning RNG yet. Simple, short and 100% accurate.

One can definitly hope. Took me 3 weeks to get one weapon, got bracers all 3 chests, when my friends who swap mains get weapons up the wazoo

Having RNG gearing, then currency to turn in for more gear that will RNG a piece that can legitimately as bad as what you are using while hoping the RNG chest doesn’t keep giving you gear that will be nothing worth mentioning. It is no wonder I play other games now.

My pally had been stuck with a 355 main hand for 2 and a 1/2 months. Finally got a 385 on him the other day. Not the 400 he needs but I’ll take what I can get at this point. lol

Why do you care what other people get?

I’ll tell you why: because it’s basic human psychology to want your rewards to match your efforts, and you don’t stop being a human when you play wow.

Everyone would criticize a job where you get paid less than someone else doing the sane work, but they’ll want to tell you it doesnt apply in a video game - even though the emotions and reactions you are having are normal and natural.

The only solution, as people say, is to stop caring, stop carong about your progression, how you compare, and certainly avoid making any goals, and just do LFR. At that uber casual level, RNG is fine because you dont care about any of the things you can obtain.

However, a lot of people enjoy making goals, going after them, and feeling accomplishment when you do. If that’s you, stop playing WoW.

Dont just stop caring about other people, or RNG, get out of the abusive relationship and stop caring about playing wow.

No, it doesn’t. Not even a little bit.

I think the comparison is more accurate to people gambling in a casino, not a job!

You keep putting in your money, only to have someone walk up, sit down next to you, pull the lever a couple of times, and shazam… they hit a winner!

After you congratulate the lucky player, you turn back to your machine and pull the lever with a little less enthusiasm!

If you are using mythic+ to grind gear then there is no point going any higher then a 10. Pushing high keys should be done for the challenge and fun not the gear.

…How so?

RNG is gonna RNG.

You can heighten your chances via 2 chesting M10’s over and over and/or going to other sources of loot like raids and Warfronts (when available). Plus the Residue vendor makes getting 400 Azerite pieces a joke.

When the system is like this, best to stack the odds in your favour.

dont worry in another 6 months you might have the TR to buy a piece :stuck_out_tongue:too bad that piece will be obselete by then…

It’s the Titanforging for me.

I’m a Heroic Raider, fairly casual. I’ve cleared Battle for Dazar’alor quite a few times, we’re on the cusp of finishing Crucible of Storms (should have it down this week). I run at least one M+ above a +10 every week.

I haven’t gotten an actual “upgrade” (not just a side grade) in a long time. Except recently…for doing our world quests out in Nazmir and I got these gloves from that. Not from my many M+, not from raiding, not from anything that requires effort. No, from a dumb box that I killed four easy mobs for. And I wasn’t excited or happy for it, it actually upset me because of all the effort I’ve put into actual difficult content and my upgrade comes from a dumb box.

Outside of that, because of older Titranforges, I have to keep hoping for more Titanforges for upgrades because I’m above 400+. It’s not fun for me to keep running the raid in the hope of getting a Titanforge thing for me. It’s not fun that my gearing path has me doing World Quests for a chance at Titanforging loot. In any other expansion before Titanforging, I’d be happy to be where I’m at, and I’d start taking breaks from dungeons and raids. But due to the possibility of upgrades, I feel like I have to keep trying.

I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t be pushing myself this much? But I feel like Titanforging is burning me out faster than just hoping for a drop from a boss.

Well, if your argument is that playing WoW is like playing a casino, then I’ll agree with you 100%.

However, I dont enjoy the casino in real life, nor play lottery tickets, and thought this was an MMO rather than a gambling simulator.

It would be an honest advertisement:

Do you enjoy going to the casino?

Then come play WoW!

But dont be surprises if people who dislike casinos also dislike WoW.

But thanks for admitting that playing WOW is related to how much you enjoy slot machines.

Agreed!

however, if you only play WoW for gear upgrades, then you are gonna hate it right now, because it isn’t a job where you earn a reward, it is gambling where you get “chances”!
