This is going to be a complete disaster

As soon as Asmongold says “I am playing on Server X, Y Faction”, instantly, that faction will lock up because at least a couple dozen thousand people will be creating a hero in his faction. Not even his friends will be able to create there. So, what is gonna happen? The server will fill with horde players on the other side, that actually play the game, instead of a bunch of low level characters that just followed Asmongold for the laughs. That means alliance will be destroyed after the Asmongold fans chill out, or even during.

And I am only talking about one influencer.

RP = Goldshire. It has been like that since I started playing two decades ago. That means that server will also have a lot of alliance players that doesn’t really play the game but “have fun around”. So even if the server is balanced in numbers, the horde side will have more “Real Players” and again, alliance will be destroyed after a while.

Does anyone want to set a timer on “how long it will take before influencers go into youtube complaining they could not get in the realm they wanted because of faction lock?”

I am not blaming anyone here. I am just being realistic. The safest way to make sure you get to play where you want is by, as soon as the servers open, create one character in each faction on each server. And your friends should do the same.

I know this will backfire. All I am hoping is that people don’t create multiple characters so that can mess up the algo so when they delete one, they unlock slots for other people.

Oh Blizzard… How hard would be to accept that we live in 2023, not in the 2000’s anymore, and talk with the influencers beforehand?

And it’s much more than just “Influencers”. People will go where the good guilds area, based on their faction selection.

We don’t even know which server is gonna be US East and which is gonna be US West. Same for Europe. Again, would it be so hard to speak with the so called “Towers” and pre-arrange something before? I know most people don’t care about it but lets be honest: you all know that most people say they don’t care actually do care and just pretend they don’t…

Goodjob Blizzard. Good job, guys.

I’m hype. Play on a server that’s not theirs. That’s what I do.

Exactly. Dang. Now I gotta look up that Asmo dude to see where he is playing, then choose accordingly.

Just have his stream open at launch. Pick the one he doesnt

Maybe?

It didn’t feel as though Asmongold and fans made a big enough difference on Faerlina to be noticeable or make it any different overall from other large servers during the initial phases of WoW Classic.

Yeah we’ve been around for a while. If folks are concerned about the world pvp consider:

I’ve rp’d my way out of being ganked more times than I’ve been ganked. It requires clever use of emotes

You should check his latest video about Classic, the server lag and the people walking around Stormwind.

Again, I am not casting any shade on Asmongold. I’m just saying that he has a huge player base, and based on recent experiences and his return to WoW, things are bound to go crazy. Just see how he talks about his player base in some of his videos and you will get the idea.

On a pserver once i was a belf rogue who kept coming across the same human mage while leveling. We became friends and would “hide” behind the other if a bunch of our faction came by and would do our best to convince them not to kill us. It worked a lot but sometimes it didnt. I’m well versed in communicating through emote.

how do we know he won’t spend the entire day reacting to some nonsense and ruin the server after we pick it anyway?

He never has on a launch. If he does then its luck of the draw.

Sure, but even if that’s 1000 people, and 900 of them stop playing when he stops playing, it’s probably not going to make any noticeable difference for faction balance or overall server population.

Of course someone could say that Faerlina’s Alliance population died out, and point to that as a result of just Asmongold stopping playing WoW Classic, but that seems very unlikely, and it doesn’t explain the population death of most realms, nor the single faction migration of pretty much every other server. Certainly that had nothing to do with even all of the streamers combined, not only one streamer, regardless of popularity.

As you said, “It comes and goes” as a Tsunami. When he starts - and he claims he will be doing the BFD content on the third day, max - a lot of people will follow. You are being optmistic about 1000… I’m willing to say at least 10.000, and I’m not even being ironic. And a lot of those people will stop playing, as you mentioned, when he does.

What Asmongold has done to WOW is amazing: just look at OTK, the Mak’Gora tournament and the incredible popularity that the whole campaign is doing to WOW. Again, all good things. But Blizzard should have taken in consideration the influencer factor. Maybe they are just testing the grounds to see how it is going to shake.

But man, it’s gonna shake so hard. It is definetly going to shake.

Again: I really like Asmongold, and I am amazed and thankful for him for all the work he and OTK are putting into WOW Classic and Retail. I am just, as he like to say, telling “What it is, for what it is.”

At least 10,000 what though? People who would otherwise not be playing at all? Or people who would be playing anyway? People are are only playing because Asmongold is playing, or people who would play anyway? People who are rolling mains or alts?

This all makes a difference. If it’s 9000 people rolling alts to play with Asmongold, then how much are they really going to play those alts? etc…

Meh. I don’t think it made much of a difference at all to Faerlina that Asmongold played there, tbh.

not sure if you were wondering about the time zones for the realms but i found this information and thought it might help ya.

According to Blizzard’s Realm Status Page, here are the following timezones for each realm:

  • A Realm - Normal - PST

  • A Realm - PvP - PST

  • A Realm - PvP - EST

  • A Realm - RP PvP - EST

Even with all the degenerate orbiter’s rolling with Asmon he brings much to the table. Hes going alliance without a doubt, probably warrior but maybe warlock. What he brings is HATE. The shear amount of players that will roll on the opposite faction (Horde VERY likely) just to gank him and hear his frustration at not being able to play, ensures we will have at least 1 balanced pvp server.

They are all listed as RPPVP now

I think Asmongold is a cool dude and i love his content on youtube. His cult that can’t contain themselves on the other hand would be better off out of the game but it isn’t going to happen. Also if i found myself in world pvp event against him and win, it will be such a brag worthy deed that i can do to anger his cult.

At least 10.000 will attempt to be making a character on the same server he does. Again, that is just a wild guess. How many of those people will be only making a level 1 to be walking around and how many will actually play until 25 with him? Hard to tell. How many will be leaving with him, and how many will be staying after he leaves? Again, hard to tell.

We don’t know for how long Season of Discovery is gonna keep people in. We don’t know how long it will take for Season 2 to arrive. We don’t know if it’s gonna popular and great as we hope it is and we don’t know how much of a draw he is gonna bring to the Season 2, 3, 4 and so on.

These are different times than what happened to Faerlina before: there is some kind of a perfect storm brewing. We just got half-million WOW viewers on Twitch, watching a world first race; we have a bigger than ever “comeback” to WOW than when Classic was released. There are famous streamers, with their own towers, moving in because of this treand. Let’s just say there is more hype than ever.

All I am sure is that Asmongold is probably gonna say something like “Legit players should move away from the server I am moving in, because I my roaches are gonna ruin the server”.

Consider his orbiters your free content. Especially if you play the opposite faction.
