This is a PSA

Remove layering and just do servers classic style.

Launch more servers if those get “full.”

There you just saved money from a consultation fee.

Absolutely terrible take.

They straight up said they will never do that again.

Why do you want 50 servers with 45 of them being dead? Merging dead servers or forcing transfers is not good design

What is the downside to layers, because I think its honestly close to a perfect solution to the problem

servers classic style would mean only around 1k players, what is the difference between 20 layers of 1k players or servers with 1k players?

Don’t quit your day job.

You can recognize the players? You can exile the ninja looters, camp the botters and gold sellers.

Layers killed WoW.

You can still do that with layers. The players are on the same server, you can still see them in /who.
And no layering didn’t kill wow. It never had. It is one of the best ways to reduce lag and overpopulation on one spot. The random layering is indeed an issue but thats mainly due to the fact that many people try to manipulate layering but inviting 10 raids in one layer

What is this a multiplayer online game or a MASSIVELY multiplayer online game?

Its still MMO… You have 20k players on that server, thats x20 more than original wow had and you called it MMO too…

Do you think people are going to pay you to kill their game?

Your idea would be catastrophic with zero upside. Servers like that don’t work outside the context of a game that is experiencing the kind of absurd and long-lasting growth that the original run of WoW did. There will likely never be another game that can sustain that server model.

I’m over here creating shareholder VALUE for Microsoft. No, you’re not welcome.

Okay sure bud

Depending on the situation we need more layers. IF you can’t complete quests because there are too many people competing for mobs then its too crowded.

And no you shouldn’t have to group up for solo questing, and you can’t group with opposing faction anyways.

aight, see you in 3 months when 40 servers are dead and they need to force name changes for everyone who isn’t lucky enough to be on one of the ones that survives

This is what they did at the start of wow back from 2004 to about 2009 is just continually launch new servers. The thing is it didn’t matter as much if servers were low pop or not because there was always new blood coming in. You have to realize that wow’s current population is rather cyclical and stagnant instead of growing, people only join at the beginning of a new expansion or game and then quit after a few months to redo the cycle. So as a result servers die after those people leave.

I don’t like layers either but what other solution is there.

Did you not just list the solution, you combine servers after 5 years.

You feeling okay?

and lose my names? Why

Sorry Tinkerfel#5464589345, but the name changes happened even with the layering.

Oh, right, Sunday.
