This game is supposed to be a museum piece

As someone who didn’t play TBC when it was current (and always regretted it), I’d like to be able to experience the game as it was, not as how some think it should have been. TBC Classic might not be 100% the same, but that doesn’t mean we need to keep changing things either. If you want to play Classic+, then I suggest you ask for Classic+ servers and leave these servers alone. Please stop trying to ruin my experience by turning this game into something other than TBC.

So does that make the people suggesting changes the kids that try to touch priceless artifacts being the red rope in museums? :joy:

I said this back when Classic was first announced: you can never regain what the game was back then. Not because of “changes”, but you also had a different gaming scene. The people were different - we grew up, got old, changed, etc.

People were trying things out. Guilds / relationships were freshly formed. Things were honestly just slower. We all had more time to screw around in game.

Today’s gaming scene is completely different. We’re playing a 15+ year old version of the game. We know every nook and cranny. Everything is min/maxed to death due to private servers. Yes, I know you don’t “have to” min/max, but if you want into a decent group you need to. Speed and accessibility due to a wealth of knowledge is the name of the game.

Yearning for the past to be put in a time capsule is nice, but you can never regain what the game was like back then because gaming has changed (for better or worse) since then.

Plus ally paladins have to give up seal of blood if you want #nochanges

I’m not a huge fan of changes, either. It’d be great if we could keep things as “authentic” as possible.

However, people are playing the game differently. WoW and WoW - TBC are old. Not only have we seen the content before, they’ve existed as private servers. Those players brought their philosophies with them. Then we have the retail crowd. All that being said, the game wasn’t designed for these playstyles. Change is inevitable.

Also - folks asking for change here in the forums is part of the Vanilla and TBC experience… so if you want authentic, then here it is.

No, it’s not.

Blizzard said classic was supposed to be a museum piece after doing a survey. But I assure you at the time they said it they were woefully wrong about what the player base actually wanted. It was a PR stunt to target the audience they thought they had. Here is the one critical fact that many people who come to the forums make. You don’t represent the community. Your beliefs about the game aren’t based in reality or even align with a vast majority of players desires.

It would be amazing if blizzard still released player statistics. You’d be quite surprised about what happened with classic and the amount of players they’ve lost due to them doing nothing to change the game. Sadly, we don’t, and you can maintain your fantasy that the game was perfectly fine and everybody loved it. They didn’t. World Buff Meta, rampant exploiting, boosting, unbalanced pvp, brain dead raid bosses that die in 60 seconds or less. Yeah, that’s the mesuem piece everybody wanted. No, it really wasn’t.

The no changers were the worst thing to happen to the game. And blizzard learned that lesson the hard way. Some changes is a good direction to take for TBC. Sadly, they have like 2 people working on the game, and neither them actually play or know anything about it. SO, there is that hurdle yet to be over come.

Three 4-hour raid nights just to clear MC is the true vanilla experience. You choosing to play with skilled, experienced, and knowledgeable players is you choosing the new ways over the old ones. If you want to really go back, reroll on a small server where you’re stuck with the first 24 other raiders you find.

So players back in the day never learned and got better?

That’s the true authentic experience! I ended up on my server (medium pop) due to coming here with some friends, so things worked out well for me.

My point still stands though. If you want to wipe for 4+ hours and learn on your own: perfectly fine. It’s different though because that’s an intentional choice and many people have the content burned into their brains at this point so they know what to expect.

Museums aren’t static displays, they’re living, breathing entities.

I think what people really wanted was inconvenience.

“Inconenience,” I say. Not “difficulty.”

Sure, we might enjoy being able to kill a level 9 mob at level 1 in retail. But I don’t think that’s really want we want.

I think we wanted the inconvenience of pulling 1 or 2 mobs of equal level, and trying to survive killing both of them before running out of health or mana. Then having to sit and drink for a few moments before continuing.

I think we wanted the inconvenience of having to walk everywhere and then hand over our wallets for the ability to move 60% faster at level 40.

I think we wanted the inconvenience of having to put forth the hours it takes to quest and grind from 1 to 60.

I think we wanted the inconvenience of having to find and put up with 39 other people in order to kill Rag, Nef, or KT.

That is the Classic experience. Suffering through a variety of inconveniences.

Retail, on the other hand, is all about convenience. If I started playing retail right now, I can probably guarantee you it would take me about week’s time to get where people are right now, even if have they have been playing for months.

I wish this was the case. Classic and tbcc have been refreshing changes from retail and all the changes in retail that take it further and further from the original game.

So I agree, but also sometimes the game being functional has to be a factor as well.

It’s working as intended. Horde flood the queues en mass so they get longer queue times. It’s not hard to figure that out
