I have a very small feature request regarding our decor inventory.
I would very much like the ability to destroy any purchased that I choose, not just that which counts toward the limit. (Or perhaps this is simply an early access issue, as I haven’t been able to find any decor that I can destroy.)
Despite being careful not to do so, I learned more of a particular item than I intended, and simply to be honest, the extra number that I don’t need really bothers me.
(Yes, this is an obsessive-compulsive thing. If you know, you know.)
Other than that, I want to express how much I love the new housing system. It has brought back a sense of joy and creative discovery to the game that I thought long lost. (Really worth its own post, but I wanted to add it here, as well.)
The options to destroy and destroy all are grayed-out, and the UI pop-up reports:
“This Decor cannot be destroyed and does not count toward your House Chest limit” [sic]
I’m not sure if this is just an early access issue, or fully intended.
I realize that it’s not functionally breaking anything, but as I mentioned, I would really like to be able to destroy certain purchased items (so long as we have the ability to purchase replacements or additional items as-needed).
To put it another way, I would like to be able to better control my storage inventory. This could even include the ability to remove an item to refund or sell it, but that would be an additional bonus.
When inside my house, I can turn on editing mode and right click on any item in my decor catalog and choose Destroy. These are not grayed out for me. It actually gives the choice of Destroy and Destroy all. When I select one, I have to type in the word Destroy to complete the process.
I, too, have plethora of items that the Destroy and Destroy All buttons are greyed out for.
What’s even more frustrating is it appears that, despite stating these items don’t count towards my storage, they in fact are. I have dozens of walls, pillars, beams and platforms from earlier builds clogging up my storage I can’t even get rid of.
All addons disabled for the character and I still have destroy and destroy all available for items. Some items that I obtained from Achievements cannot be destroyed. And yes, this is on the live servers.
Okay, I have some additional information on this issue (or at least what led to this issue).
First of all, the issue still exists. I cannot delete certain items from my storage, and it’s not clear what items I can and cannot delete before I learn them. That’s the first UI issue.
The second UI issue I just noticed while learning some order hall decor, which I believe is what led me to learn a duplicate I didn’t intend in the first place.
When you mouse-over green items, the UI will clearly tell you how many copies you already own, or if you don’t, it will list a first-time XP bonus. I’m sure we’ve all seen this. This is what I was looking for to make sure there were no duplicates.
However, for some reason, certain items (usually they’re blue quality), do not list whether or not you already own them. They don’t list a first-time bonus either (because you probably already own it).
This UI inconsistency led me to not realize I already owned a copy of the item and I proceeded to purchase it and learn a second copy.
I know this sounds like a bad case of “blame the UI for a mistake”, but I feel quite a bit better knowing I didn’t just get sloppy. The UI really didn’t provide the information I was looking for and I didn’t realize that some items do not show whether or not you already own them (unless you check your storage manually).
So, back to my suggestions:
1.) The UI needs to clarify this. Any item you already own should clearly state how many before you purchase it.
2.) We should simply be able to either destroy and/or refund any item.
Yes it kind of drives me nuts too haha. I have a hundred candles I was going to use for stars before I realized they are interractable. Now I get reminded of it every time I scroll past it.
This, gives a softcap that gets lower and lower until you realize far too late that your wall purchases are (currently) permanent, and limiting as you cant destroy them
