The schism between classic and retail players is disgusting. You berate and insult each other over every single thing, every idea, every grievance, every “i wish”, is met with hostility and insult. Acting like you are a superior being for enjoying a different play style. I know this post wont help much, but if some of you can use a little introspection and think about if your response is useful or just knee jerk trolling that would be nice. As an outsider looking in i see a toxicity that only serves to drive everyone away.

While I cannot honestly speak for others, I will say that I left retail for reasons that I do not want to see repeated in 4E.
Should we be able to speak respectfully to one another; absolutely. This forum is indicative of everything else in society; people mock and belittle because they do not know how to discuss.

Have you considered that there are a lot of people on retail or that left retail because they weren’t getting what they were asking for who happen to be pivoting towards Forever with hopeful eyes that this could be a home for them, too?
I’m a Wrath-baby, for example. There are a ton of things that I miss about the simpler times and friction in the world. I would love to see more of something that resembles an older ruleset with new content to see.
I’d just like to experience it with fewer warts, and I’ll gladly admit those are subjective and that you and I would disagree on what things are fair game to adjust a bit from that vanilla template.

Like if retail sucks its because you guys asked for all the changes all the friction to be removed. sleep in the bed you made made. Get retail changed in the direction of forever not the eother way around, and ESPECIALLY nto at the expesne of classic audience getting their game.

Without getting into a lot of details, I will simply say, I am a combat veteran. Many of my friends didn’t come home; I did. Life isn’t fair.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Most Classic players seem to hate Forever and will stay in their Era/Progression servers. 95% of Forever players will be the people who are tired of those dead end mausoleum Classic servers and want VANILLA back, meaning an actively developed version of the game they fell in love with decades ago-this includes a huge portion of the retail population, and tons of people who quit the game over the years and have been patiently waiting for Classic+. Those are the people who this game was made for and that’s the population that will keep playing long term. Once the influencer hordes leave the game I think we’ll end up with a good community on Forever with the worst of the worst no-changes Classic Andys back in their fishbowls. All I can say is don’t let them get up to their old tricks that ruined Classic servers-gatekeeping lowbie content, gear checking low level dungeons, hard reserving items in low level dungeons-we’ve seen the Classic Andys doing all of this and more in the Beta, REJECT ALL OF IT-none of that obnoxious behavior existed in Vanilla.

The key is to remember that forum posters are not truly “the community” any more than the goofballs spamming nonsense in trade chat. Attention seekers now have a huge new audience to share their drivel with, and are taking full advantage of it. When you start chatting with people locally in-game, or in whispers or parties, you’ll come to realize just how little these forum complainers represent the overall player base.

It is funny that people actually think that Blizzard would act on any of these outlandish ideas, which means people are just trolling.
For example, flight. No reasonable person is still asking for flight after the Devs shot it down. There will never be flight in Forever. That is a staple of the game, and anyone asking for it is trolling.
Also, I wish people would stop calling each other ‘andies’. It is a nonsense insult, and quite frankly people should start being actioned for it, just like any other insult.

its still the case that this game is for the classic audience who were in private servers or getting bored of the classic progression servers. blizz needed a way to capture that audience. anything that retail audence likes about the game should be viewed as a BONUS.
but instead its entitled requests for mroe and more. thats wrong period. i dont care at all how “played out” it is to do the tribalism thing, this isnt about hating retailers its about protecting the thing we fought for

Well said. I really hope Forever is successful and they port the good stuff into Retail. A better leveling experience would be absolutely amazing. The feeling of being invincible is nice, but it wears thin. An appropriate level of friction is necessary to maintain flow after all.

I agree, this is a game trying to bring people together and with so many ppl taking the stance of, if its not my way its awful. People should take the time to write more through messages. Yes its basically classic plus but they called it something else for a reason. They want to try to bring both sides together so we can have a community. There is a zero percent chance everyone will be happy. Classic or Retail players dont have control over how this will pan out, be constructive not destructive. Some quality of life if good, to much is bad, lets find ways to make the best possible game. Dont fault people for not playing the game at launch when game was significantly harder, and dont expect everyone to enjoy a game where everything feels handed to you. Forever looks to be a good medium I for one am happy I dont need to spend a few hours of my life getting world buffs just to be able to raid.

I wish is intended as a deer diary moment. Nobody goes back to the makers and Nintendo and says “you know I wish Mario was wearing black and purple instead of red and blue“ and then expects them to change the entire aesthetic of the game.
when it comes to forever, the devs have a very specific vision in mind and players will either enjoy it or they will keep playing where they’re at in retail. Those of us who want a non-competitive slow journey, adventure, game that moves horizontally instead of vertically are pleased with this option.
I don’t agree with people going after one another for their opinions, but I also think a lot of people who want to add something to forever that already exist in retail should just stay in retail. I personally plan to play both simply because I have 21 years in the retail market and more stuff in my collection than I care to admit to. And since housing will never be an option in forever unless they really change their minds down the road. My plan is to play both.
