The past two months I have started to do high end content, Keys above 15’s and Mythic Nyalotha. When you start to play at this level you really start to see the flaws and cracks of Rogue class design.
Why is it that Hunters, Mages, Demon hunters, etc, all need 1 build, 1 corruption set, 1 azerite set and they get to be viable in all forms of content and Rogue needs multiple sets just to even compete and still lose compared to these braindead specs. Let me give you some examples…
Are you a Sin Rogue?
DO you want to be competitive in Mythic Plus?
Lol you idiot, bad choice but if you really want to stack crit/verse, farm out over 35k echoes for strikethrough and severe then get all the right azerite pieces with SS/EB.
DO you want to be competitive at raiding??
Lol you absolute joker, have fun pulling less DPS then a havoc spamming CS. Stack all haste, have fun farming 35k+ echoes to buy all 7-9 expedients and farming out all haste gear. If you also want to parse well, I hope your mythic team gets fast kills so your cr*ppy bleed build doesnt cough its lungs out after 3 mins and your dps drops exponentially. Also this set you spent so much time farming is garbage in Mythic plus lmaooo and its useless in pvp too. See you at the bottom of the meter.
But Xivara dude, if you want to be good at Mythic Plus just play outlaw?
Oh yeah mean the Yahtzee meme spec where I develop carpal tunnel spamming sinister strike just to do fat AOE damage and still do worse on Tyranical weeks then other classes.
This class is a joke, Ive mained rogue for 5 years. We are months into Alpha and there are ZERO ZERO ZERO ZERO ZERO rogue changes. None. Nothing to change the boring core design of all 3 specs. At this point am just going to give up and drop this class.

I can agree 100% and I have ran into this problem on a few different toons. I decided to leave my faith for SL

Legit the devs will mail it in with Rogue design if there are no significant changes by the end of July for Rogues, They did it with BFA where Sub had some changes happen way too late in the process.
August/Sept/Oct is basically the beta stage if we are being honest if the release deadline of Nov/Dec holds for shadowlands.
There is a chance for positive changes for Rogues but that window is shrinking fast.

Yeah it’s frustrating that our talents are in largely dead trees, causing the need for building extremely specific gear sets for the type of fight. Then add in the RNG boss which means it’ll take 6 months to actually get 2-3 sets of gear that are acceptable at high-end for the different encounters. That being said I still have more fun playing rogue than any other class, just wish they’d make 3 viable specs instead of making them only viable in one specific situation.

While I see the flaws of the class I still find myself enjoying it, whether it be the quirks or unique rotation the energy/combo point playstyle provides, I don’t mind the occasional tier being middle tier DPS, though with the increasingly fast kill times I’ve seen myself and rogues in general climb higher on the meters.
Regarding M+ I either bring my decent M+ set or my raid Assassination gear with a couple Echoing Blades, I like both specs and the DPS is more than enough for me to have fun.
While both the Azerite and corruption systems have been annoying thankfully they’re going away in Shadowlands and we’ll be able to switch specs freely as long as we have the appropriate weapons. That being said a new borrowed power system will be coming along and the issue will shift from “why don’t you have the set with the proper Azerite traits” to “why didn’t you choose the best covenant and the correct soulbinds”. This will be an issue for every class so they’ll be getting a taste of what we’ve been going through.
Covenant power will be a huge issue and I doubt they’ll be changing the system now after not acknowledging its flaws in the past month of alpha testing… It’s just more frustration waiting to happen.

tfw Exped 3 and Strikethrough 3 are only like a week apart from each other, and you need like 7 of each because gearing for different contents for your class is literally the same as gearing for two different characters…
I probably PUGed more than 60 M+ keys in this one week lol. After this grind, I actually want to commit not live. At least the affixes are still manageable this week, I guess.
Anyway, don’t you just love game designs that encourage “meaningful choices?” It’s just such a genius idea to make it so that our class has to choose one thing to gear for, when everyone is mandated to play all aspects of the game to be competitive. And the best part is, they’re bringing back this whole shebang in Shadowlands YET AGAIN with Covenants!!! Oh boy, I just can’t wait to choose one thing to be good at and then suck donkey balls at everything else for the rest of the expac!!!
Oh, also, I still don’t have rank 3 Conflict and Strife, because imo not being able to solo kill healers makes the entirety of PVP instantly unplayable. I’ve already been told that not having this PVP Essence will directly result in me not being able to push 20+ keys. I’ve also been told that I’ll have to farm out Twist the Knife Azerite Pieces, Drest/Mechagon bicycle trinket, and Haste/Versa gears with Gushing Wounds to actually play PVP.
I probably should have kept playing Sub like I did in Legion. Maxing out Fishing is probably more fun than trying to progress in BfA.

In short, you’re just wrong if you think rogue is the only class switching gear and talents between raids, mythic +, etc…

You are not wrong and you are not right.
Try as you may with all your might.
For i shall punt you little gnome warrior to the netherlight.

If you think rogue’s core design is boring I don’t think you’re going to find much solace in the other classes design. Particularly the ones you listed. DH and BM Hunters are braindead and Fire Mages are built entirely around a couple pieces of gear and a cooldown.
I’d say rogues have one of the better core designs in the game, with the exception of Sub which is a disaster.

Everything you mentioned that makes rogues “so bad” is literally what every other class deals with lmfao

The main frustrating theme is:
Shadowlands Update - Live Stream on July 8
- Rogue still don’t have 2 talents (hidden in shadow)
- We are seen only core of class, nothing was twiked, nothing added.
Sad position about this.

The missing talents are probably good sign, if anything. It shows they still haven’t got around to our changes. Which means good things could come. I’d be more worried if we had everything as then who knows if we’d even get a pass.

or blz just don’t know what to do with rogue)
So far, rogue is looking like garbanzo beans on the SL alpha.
Blizz hasn’t really touched it much at all, so a lot of the frustration points are still there.
Meanwhile, other classes are getting a lot more back that they used to have and their cov abilities aren’t garbage fires.
Yeah this is looking like BFA where they squeeze in talents the last minute.
The pass has to come soon because anything past July is iffy to be re-iterated or passed over again by the devs.

If I get gouge back, they can leave everything else the same aside from maybe some tuned talent trees (speaking for sin - gut outlaw and bring back combat, revert sub).

Been maining a rogue since bc, and its just so sad to see how the class has decayed into a deformed laughable version of its old self. Like you said the core design of all 3 specs is boring and overly simplistic. And at the end of the day the class just isnt really that fun anymore. Its sad, but Shadowlands will be the first expansion that i don’t main my rogue.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news and all that but welcome to the rogue class, it’s basically this way for everything you do.
