Thinking of Transferring to this server

Hey all, I am thinking of jumping over to this server, wanted to get a few opinions! I would be likely coming on my Horde which I hear the Horde side isn’t quite as active. I am currently on Emerald Dream and it’s just not turning out to be what I thought it would be unfortunately. No RP, not a ton of folks being social.

Roll a character on MG and play around for a while. All servers have slightly different cultures, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. It’s active on Alliance side.

It really depends on what you want! Here’s the oversimplified breakdown:

  • Moon Guard Horde is small and tight knit. It tends to favor serious roleplay based around strong identity groups and causes within the lore.
  • Moon Guard Alliance is a bustling metropolis. It has the highest pop and the broadest range of roleplay, from the silly to the serious.

Wyrmrest Accord is sort of like Moon Guard’s sister realm.

  • Wyrmrest Accord Horde has a medium sized population. It has a broader range of RP than Moon Guard’s Horde, and has some more space for casual play alongside the serious.
  • Wyrmrest Accord Alliance is barely populated, but a few people keep it alive. They like to hang out in Duskwood and there are a handful of guilds.

This is a really fair assessment.

I hope you’re able to find something like like!

One of the first conditions is finding out if a name or any name you desire is available. MG is overpopulated at times so finding an unused name will be like a needle in a haystack in any number of fields.

Spoiler Alert
Some players sell them so expect to pay a lump sum for their free month game time for your desired name.

After that you want to decide what it is you seek. On a peak normal day you’ll find approximately no more/less than 100 players online for MG horde. During events like easter egg hunts or the upcoming midsummer fire festival that number quadruples. Same can be said for WRA alliance. MG Alliance is as busy as a Taylor Swift concert, WRA Horde as busy as a Kanye West concert. (*Burn maybe? >>>> Just Kidding)

Don’t let that discourage you as you will still find players that engage both sides so you can have some fun when adventuring.

Once you decide your allegiance and server, you want to pick a guild or solo option.

Guilds are a plentiful as leaves on a tree. Some are hardcore in all aspects. Be it lorebound role playing, PVP, dungeons or raiding, or the heavyset adveturers. And others are as light as do as you wish, if you need help someone may come along. Be as free as a leaf on the wind.

Spoiler Alert
Decide if you wish to fill out a job application for some including personal information or just accept the guild invite and go with the flow for others.

Solo option includes making a guild for yourself like a guild title like mine. You are the boss of yourself and you can use the guild space for all your non-soulbound items you find/seek/collect. You play your own role and lead of a one man/woman army.

First and foremost: Awesome that you’re looking to transfer to Moon Guard! Welcome, if you do.

As others have given some tips, I’m giving a few as well that might help. I’m going to be up front and say I’m currently on a RP hiatus/quit it (at least for now), so my viewpoint may be a bit off.

The biggest thing you’ll want to determine is what faction you’re looking to roleplay on. I’m only going to cover Moon Guard Alliance and Horde here.

The Factions:
Alliance:
Alliance side is the more active and populated side in comparison to Horde side. Stormwind is the massive RP hub, you can find RP outside of it but these are mostly in communities, guilds, and pre-planned RPs. You’ll find walk up rp, as well as RP of many. Such as: slice of life, serious, mature, comedic, etc.

Horde:
Horde-side is active, but you will not find as much walk up RP. It is also much less populated. It is very heavily guild and community focused, with storylines connected among various guilds and players together.

Guilds and Communities:
One of the biggest parts of the server’s RP setting is guilds and communities.

Guilds:
With guilds, you’ll find a plethora offering different themes for your character. You’re in luck, there are some wonderful neutral/cross-faction guilds if you prefer those themes. Due to population, Alliance does have more numerous and active guilds than Horde, but both practically offer the same. My experience? Horde tends to have mostly military. Alliance-side has a lot more other options due to population.

Communities:
These are 100% opt-in, and a lot of players don’t care they exist or know they exist. Player-ran communities can offer a few wonderful options to the server and your character. Horde-side has one or two, mostly military and politically focused. Alliance-side offers similar, with a few hidden ones throughout. These communities are often interlaced together through stories.

Warcraft Conquest is a huge part of the RP Communities, with members from Stormwind Law Project (SLP), Eternal Court of Lordaeron, Horde Vanguard, the Grand Alliance Community, and others all present in it. That being said, this may not be your cup of tea and that’s alright! You can find stories with many people, especially on Alliance-side.

My Personal Suggestions:

  1. Get an alt and scope out both factions. You’re paying money to transfer, find the right one that fits you.

  2. Ask people in game. 99% of the realm does not use these forums. Most people are friendly, they’ll be happy to give an answer or two.

  3. RP how you want to. If you’d rather stay out of guilds, but want to be on a certain faction? Do it. You’ll find people to RP with.

  4. Finally, have fun and take a look at what both offer. Moon Guard is not as active as it once was, but both factions will offer a lot. In the end, you’re not stuck to your character. You can make one on each side of you want. Indulge, have fun, figure out what you’d like!

There’s a lot of amazing suggestions and advice in this thread. I’d absolutely recommend joining the various discords associated with the respective servers to get a vibe/see if there’s anything that interests you as well as rolling an alt.

Running around and getting a feel for things (or how they changed) is apart of what influenced my decision to return back to MG after being on WRA (I was Alliance, and the RP scene had dwindled).

Be the change you want to see. MG Horde will be bigger with you

If you want to save some cash, The War Within is making cross-realm guilds a thing. I currently got a cross faction guild on MG and WrA with the same name, that will be merged once TWW comes out, and I have characters on ED and Cenarion Circle as well to start getting some branches going over on those servers as well.

I am sure lots of RP guilds will be doing the same as us, and this will allow you to stay and play on the server you like, but if guild members are online on another server you can zone into their realm and RP. The only bummer option about that method is you gotta have a guild member online that is on that server and willing to anchor you over and stay grouped with you to keep you there for the RP, so it will have challenges for sure.

My guild is doing that, too. We have the same guild name on MG and WrA and a lot of the same character names saved. We’ll sort it out once cross-realm guilds happen.
