Thinking about WoW makes me sad

i used to love making alts, making a fresh-faced new character, and leveling them up with a class or spec i don’t really play, or have’nt tried… but… i don’t really do that anymore cause the leveling is so… simple.

the new leveling changes are good, they get you to higher-end content faster, but at the same time… it feels like something’s missing from the game now. something important, and i can’t put my finger on it.

i thought about rolling an alt, making a new character, having fun… but then i remembered ‘oh yeah… i’d just have to get to level 10, and about 85% of the game would be available to me from the get-go.’ and i lost interest.

i mean, what’s the point of leveling up, if you can go pretty-much anywhere without much restriction?

just… i dunno you guys the game just does’nt feel ‘right’ anymore… like the soul of it has been pulled out. but hey, that’s just my opinion.

The loss of the RPG in wow is a modern tragedy.

I still find a lot of joy doing older content.

There are not many pointless rental systems bogging down the play experience in older content. Chromie time and barbershop customization changes really breathed a second wind into me with WoW! Imagine if BlizZard didn’t break their promise of continued customizations with systemlands…

Id never level a newbie to 120, lol. Ever again.
I love the new shorter, easier leveling because it means I can go do all that side crap I missed and still level pretty quick, not having to dedicate every moment to leveling a character that I could earn a college degree in less time, lol.

if you want to it to take longer, theres always the option of turning off experience thru some of the content, I guess. Or just turning it off at 49 like I do and running the content till youre tired of it.

Its called ‘end game’ …‘current content’.
When youre in a race the finish line is the goal. Thats where you want to be.
With WoW right now the finish line is in the middle of a deep stinky swamp, so why would you want to even bother finishing the race, let alone try to win it.

Can’t say that I agree. Leveling is the best it’s ever been… Then again I like to have choices

What a bizarre take.

“Oh man, I’ll have a choice of where I want to play and what content to do? Laaaame.”

The thought of having to go through that 60-80 stretch in BC/WotLK was enough to keep me away from most alts. It’s been very nice being able to level one in a consistent setting.

god I LOVE being able to just outright skip content I dont like, lol.
What we have now is fantastic for that…I can run allthe stuff I do enjoy and ignore the stuff I dont.
I love being able to do mists content, then jump over to classic content, then maybe some WoD or legion.
I dont know how anyone would prefer doing the way it was before over what we have now.

^ So much that. That is why I laugh when people always bring up BC and Wrath as the best etc. Yeah, when it was current it was fun because it was new and I made some good memories with the people I played for those 2 expansions, but fact of the matter is, they are 2 of the most boring expansions to level in. I would rush out of those as fast as I could. Having choices now where I can probably skip those 2 expansions (if not then I should have to do too much from either one).

You do realize you can still do that right? Just go through each zone by expansion then. Problem solved.

Maybe with TBC classic and most likely Wotlk classic, they will go back and revamp said areas with new expansion(s).

Comparison with questing Cata and beyond, they certainly need it. Though Wotlk was headed to more interesting way to quest.

I agree let’s make the game less alt friendly than it already is. Make leveling take longer and make it harder!

it’s not the choice that’s the problem it’s that it won’t really feel impactful to go there. like, i remember going to northrend for the first time, and being amazed at the new places, and how there were’nt low-level players in dalaran. it’s not the option, it’s the… ‘mystique’ being missing from the zones, y’know?

Okay but that’s gone as soon as any given expansion is a few months old.

Are you really telling me that alt #25 being forced to go through Northrend to get past 80 had a sense of wonder?

well, not a sense of wonder per-se, it’s more… a sense of earning. like, i’d feel that i earned the right/strength-required to be in those zones. now it’s just… not that.

Totally agree… i very must dislike the new everyone has a mob their own level aspect .

I think the changes were necessary if this game has any hopes of attracting new players.

New leveling just needs some QoL additions.

  • Allow Players to nerf their own exp gains (something like 25% / 50% / 75% increments)
  • Add a queue all timelines feature to LFD
  • Allow Chromie Time to extend to level 60 if you have at least 1 max level character

Then stop thinking about it.

Thinking of WoW doesn’t make me sad… but thinking about the sense of community that once existed within WoW, does.
