I’m getting tired of looking at my mage. He’s a big dopey orange guy. I’m thinking about a race (and name) change. Should I go short and green with pointy ears and be a goblin, or tall and blue nightborne?

Troll, undead, goblin or vulpera.
All are acceptable options for a mage.

I’m a fan of pandaren. Big jolly bear dude in a world full of war and strife, it’s a nice contrast. The racials are great too. I love having a CC option against rogues when they decide to cloak.
But I understand they’re not everyone’s cup of tea.

The pandaren racial could be useful, but I think I’m really more a fan of the classic races. I do like the goblins too. If I remember right this guy started off as one long long ago.

That’s fair. Of those two races, I’d probably go goblin. The biggest downside to goblin is the horrible clipping you’ll get with belts if you’re a male wearing a robe. Nightborne kinda look weird imo (shoulda gotten the NPC models) and the only racial you’d really look forward to as a mage is the 1% spell damage, which is kinda boring.
True. My hunter is a goblin and gear looks kind of funny on him. Currently I’ve got everything hidden except the guild tabard and his bow is transmogged to an old basic thing.

Is it a race you’re used to playing (recently)?
As someone who has gnomed’ it for a bit you do often look up to npcs and players and for some that’s something they don’t feel comfortable with. I don’t mind it myself but just a heads up.

Working from home and being stuck here the last 6 weeks I’ve put in a lot of WoW time. I took advantage of that double xp buff and leveled up undead shadow priest up from 110. And my goblin hunter from 74. And my troll shammy from 110.
Now that you mention it, it does seem kind of weird with the goblin being so short.
If it’s something that felt fine then go for it. I like the way they look - I think even your current mog would translate to a ‘street merchant of the mid east’ look.

It irks me that my mage is carrying a sword. It should be a staff, but hey the offhand turkey leg at least is ok.

Zandalari, who doesn’t like being the greatest race on Azeroth. I mean those elves are a de-evolution if you ask me.

When I had an orc mage I found this one fit them very well:
You’re a frost mage, so you can mog the Legion artifact staff over even a sword. The only thing you can’t mog that over is a wand.
Wait for Shadowland and check out the new customization options before doing anything.
Undead mages have cool casting animations and look great in cloth, both genders imo.
Hard disagree, I hate how staves look on the back. If you held them in your hand while casting it’s be different, but since you don’t, sword/dagger + offhand looks way better.
