Not as a replacement for voice actors, but maybe to insert things like player names, races and classes into the spoken dialogue.
That would be kind of neat if it worked good enough. Though it might get a little weird hearing Khadgar call out some of our awful names. I’m looking at you guys with special characters in your name. But also that might be really funny to you idk. I suppose if you could go into the game settings and change how your name is phonetically pronounced like you used to be able to in ventrilo, that might fix things for those people.
Lol,I think I already have some sort of AI with the quests addon, I have a warrior named kilmemore but it pronounced it KILL-memory .yeah it was funny.
I know about text to speech, but I’m not talking about just that. I’m talking about a program that uses machine learning to create a TTS that is trained from sample audio to mimic everything from the cadence, tone, inflection. Like in this meme. Look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gGLvg0n-uY
Tbh though, if we are going to have that, their should be a pronunciation name thing where you have to … basically tell the AI how your name is pronounced. Because otherwise it’s going to mess it up and such.
Trust me, the Deepfake AI voice thing, it’s something you have to be particular with.
Deepfakes and AI stuff is getting really good, too good. : ( People think Terminator and Jurassic Park were just movies, they were cautionary tales. Ever seen that Morrowind mod, the Dagoth Ur AI thing? That was neat.
That’s pretty cool. I remember an addon in WoW where people voice acted the quests in an attempt to fully voice the game like this. And it got shut down because it was a copyright violation, since people were reproducing the work and performing it. I wonder if an addon that just reads the text inside the quest field and converts it to speech would be treated the same way.
HogL has that annoying microsoft voice text-to-speech thing for the menus. I tried it… I had to turn it off. It had a noticeable pause after ever word.
If you are going to do it… do it right. Actual voice overs and avoid the computer generated stuff because it will sound like hot garbage.
I assume you’re talking about Hogwarts Legacy. It took a while to parse what you were even talking about.
But no, if you’ve been paying attention to computer generated stuff lately, it’s actually really good and doesn’t sound like that microsoft sam stuff or robotic at all. The person who mentioned the Morrowind Dagoth UR mod above knows what I’m talking about, and you should look into a youtube video of that to see where computer generated stuff is right now. Definitely not perfect, but it is very possible right now to make passable dialogue.
I must be the only person who bought the game… played it for a few hours and put it on the shelf. To be honest I found Oblivion boring also and it took me years to get into Skyrim. Maybe I’m just getting old.
It’s not just you. People raved and raved about skyrim when it came out and that was my first entry into the elder scrolls universe. The world was pretty but the gameplay was perhaps the most boring thing i’d ever experienced. I had no idea what people were talking about.
