Game design is 1) Get you to buy the game 2) Get you to grind world quests until you hit exalted and quit because 3) There is nothing else to do. Every new feature of this expansion was a failure and that hasn’t changed. And 4) Even the story is highly uninteresting.
The game is being run on budget mode just for initial sales and 1-2 months sub for each major patch while people grind faction rep. They made quests take a lot longer and provide less and less rep (we’re down to 50 now) to maximize the number of people who sub for a 2nd month before quitting.
I’m one of the most content people around (I’ve somehow stayed subbed the entire expansion just playing alts and hoping for mage tower, etc. type tings) so I can’t see the game doing well in the future if I’m shopping around so soon after a major patch drop.
I used to like the old FF games, but FF12 turned me off the series completely. Never gave FF14 a try, but I will now.
FFXV held my attention for a solid hour before i cancelled my sub. Then, I got burnt out on WoW again and saw all the ranting/raving about how great it was … so tried again. Forced my way to level 10 and cancelled again.
If you’re into anime, then it’s all for you and then some. It’s definitely not my cup of tea. At all. I was not drawn to it in any way shape or form.
So what else do you want to do, exactly? There’s a new raid, a new dungeon, and a new dungeon season. They added heroic warfronts and more profession items and leveling.
They literally added more of everything to the game except character levels.
FFXIV is a great game but I will admit the initial leveling experience is tough to get through because its alot of quests and the game does not cater to people by holding their hands at every direction. There will be times you have to look things up.
If you want to get right into the best part of the game I reccomend boosting to 70. You will get a great introduction with the latest content that has brought all the best from the prior expansions and expanded on their success.
The best expansions so far are Heavsward and Shadowbringers (the current one).
It is a long journey and the story is the biggest part of it. The first expansion a realm reborn that has levels 1-50 is slow. You are a nobody that becomes the biggest bad ash in all of eorzia. But its a process. And the first expansion has alot of reading to go through.
Certainly do not make your decision on it until you reach max level. A realm reborn was balanced for level 50. Heavansward for level 60. Storm blood for level 70. And now shadowbringers for level 80. The classes start feeling amazing at 60, incredible at 70 and GOD MODE at 80.
Yeah they added more of the stuff that was already bad in 8.0. I don’t like the dungeon design this expansion, the new zones/story are not interesting, I don’t like warfronts, the new PvP battle is broken due to faction imbalance (should be a BG anyway), no new mage tower, and so on.
Seems like you should have stopped playing this game in 8.1. None of this has changed, nor has there been any hint of it changing, since end of 2018. Not likely to change in 8.3 either, so go ahead and skip that tier, instead of coming back expecting something else, and then complaining about nothing changing.
Oh, well, you’re just wrong. The dungeon design is just as good as any other expanison since BC, the new zones have more story in them since any expansion since Wrath, and while I don’t like warfronts either, they at least added new content in that regard.
I don’t know why people are expecting “a new mage tower.” I mean, I guess the Brawler’s Guild is still around, but it doesn’t make sense just to rehash the mage tower every expansion.
