So im trying to log in, after i reloaded in the new zone and im getting an error saying “A character with that name already exists” im so confused. i logged out in the new zone and now my main cant get back in

Sounds like a addon is not working.
First thing hackers do is change your password. If you can’t change it, then you probably have been hacked and won’t even be able to log in.
If you can, you’re probably safe.

You’re fine, at least fine as in: not hacked.
Its happened to me before a few times. Try logging in to another toon, logging out, and then re-trying the desired toon again. Sometimes it takes a few minutes.
I hope if I get hacked. They pay for a 6 month sub for me.

Yeah, this is an age-defying issue, but its not a bug. Its just the server still has you showing logged in but your client is logged out, due to lag in server communication.
As suggested, log other characters/realms, do a complete log off, wait 5 mins, then log back in. Just let the servers catch up with all the log in/outs and you will be fine. No hacking to worry about.

Your character is still in game due to lag, wait awhile to have your character be forced logged from the servers
gotta wait 30 minutes for your character to get auto kicked from the server before you can log back in
Data not up to your computer ,that happens .
Oh they most certainly are in game as we discuss and write. Notice how they aren’t writing anymore

This is very common and happens sometimes when you get disconnected unexpectedly.
You can either wait it out or try switching to a different character briefly.
No hacking occurred. Just busy and unstable servers on a patch release.
Hopefully this info helps someone going forward.
What’s this have to do with being gullible? They said they had an issue and didn’t understand what was happening, not that someone told them they had been hacked and they believed it.

It’s a bug. It’s happened to me before on patch day. Just give it time.
You can also try logging into another character, and then the original to see if that boots you out.
