Think aoe Leveling possible at launch?

For those who were experienced launches of private servers and such, in your experience was AoE grinding (mages, etc…) possible at launch, or were there just too many people?

Also, is AoE grinding OK in a PvP server, or is that just a no-go?

Impossible, u need a good pull with mobs being killed at the same time, if other people are picking mobs out of that group and they spawn again when u are in combat u are f*d. Higher lvl it will be possible with there being more places to farm.

But Pservers aren’t a good comparison since we had dynamic respawn, so even in redridge we could aoe with 3 groups at the same spot.

You could honestly only make it work if you get ahead and stayed ahead to the point of being in zones others would not be in. Probably no, but there is a chance you could even jsut slightly. You will still have to quest though

The only way you can do that is if, like Kulzuk said, you manage to get ahead of the curve. Which is very possible honestly as most classes get their AoE around lvl 20.

If you can get ahead of the pack and manage to AoE grind a lil while doing the best quests, you might very well be able to get into new zones before the swarm gets there, and you’ll be able to keep your lead that way.

Literally impossible.

There is going to be such an enormous influx of players in the starting days of Classic that you’ll be lucky to be catching even 2 mobs at once before someone tags them. RIP to classes who dont have some kind of way to tag mobs the instant they spawn.

AoE farming is going to be completely unviable for probably a good month after launch because there will be 15 people standing around a camp that only has 6 mobs in it, all trying to kill them as they pop up.

It’s already been said but get ahead and stay ahead.

It’ll be tough but doable. Now will it be optimal? Only time will tell.

My best advice would be to look up mobs in a zone and avoid any that are connected to quests, unless you’re doing that quest, as you might find yourself fighting for mobs as time goes on.

Not the best example since you can barely AoE farm at this level but if you wanted to grind in say ,The Barrens, your best bet would be on the Savannah Huntress’ as they aren’t tied to any quests and there are packs of them all over.

AoE On pvp server comes at a risk.

The rogue will take the advantage and watch you die by mobs.

Just go to unpopular zones or find camps that are out of the way. For example, i think there are some gnoll camps in the wetlands on the far east side of the map. I doubt those will be contested since the quest to kill them has a dozen or so other camps that are significantly closer to the quest giver. Same thing with the murloc camps on the coast.

PVP server? Depends where you AOE grind. I wouldn’t recommend it at all because getting ahead and staying ahead is going to be extra difficult and that’s obviously the best way to do it.

I wish you godspeed if you try it though my dudes. I’m going to just kick it slow and enjoy the ride.

I’m sure they’ll kill that… They hated it at the time and nerfed mages at every turn because of it.

Absolutely possible you’ll just have to find somewhere to do it that isn’t over crowded or you need to be ahead of the leveling curve.

Since AOE leveling usually doesn’t start until late 20s early 30s some spots to go are:

  • Worgens in Duskwood
  • Spiders in Dustwallow
  • Silithids in 1k needles
  • Pirates/Wastewater bandits in Tanaris
  • Ogres in Tanaris
  • Beasts in Feralas

Possible once you hit about the mid 20 zones. Wetlands and redridge gnoll camps are a good one, since no one is going to pull an entire group alone, though it may not be worth doing since there is no dynamic respawns. Though on the higher end stuff it’s probably worth it.

Possible, highly doubt it will be optimal, but with reduced server pops it may be.

Was repeating the same dungeon for XP a thing in vanilla vs. the extra travel time of questing?

When I played in vanilla we were never super efficient about anything so I never really had a specific leveling strategy.

Only if you were a lunatic. dungeon exp was garbage compared to the time spent of you didnt have quests.

Finding those hiding spots would be hard, its not a no go to aoe grind pvp server.
Most territories are contested so you probably would be attacked regardless of aoeing or not.

But I never experience private servers so I shouldn’t post.

Oh man, Warrior is a class I’m considering and I hadn’t even thought about this. If I go that route I’ll definitely need to team up with a buddy that can tag faster.

I started doing it in Vanilla in the late 20s in the farms in Hillsbrad. Here’s the thing: if one npc resists…you’re screwed. So really they should be lower level than you. Also, I stupidly used frostbite.

As far as Classic: there will be way too many players around to pull this off. At least at launch and for quite a while afterwards.

if zone is too crowded–

can ya get exploration xp in classic? take off your gear and send it to an alt or put in bank, so you dont have to pay to repair it, then graveyard hop and explore and grab flightpoints along the way. get exploration xp while you’re at it.

You would explore like every zone in the game and get like 2 levels
