Things I'd like to see with the new UI Overhaul

I’m honestly really excited for the UI overhaul, there’s just a few things I really hope it allows us to have built into the game, so that addons are not required for specific functions.

-Can we have a keybind or some kind of function that allows us to automatically use ANY quest item, if the requirements are met. For example, You can have three quests with on use items, but seeing three different icons distracts you from which one to use sometimes. I personally wish that we could just hit a button and the game would know, “this quest item works here, the others don’t”, and immediately use the quest item as intended. Wildstar had this feature and it was fantastic! I’m sad WoW didn’t copy that.

The next request is in two parts.

-Can we have collapsing action bars. As in, Elvui allows us to have several action bars, but sometimes you don’t want to show all the action bars of a specific bar. Can we have the option to dictate how many bars an action bar displays. This would really improve our quality of life greatly.

-Secondly, Can we potentially get the functionality of an addon called Opie, with some slight tweaks? What this addon does is fantastic. It allows you to dramatically multiply keybinds into a single click. You press the button and a scroll wheel appears around your mouse and you scroll and let go of the keybind to select the selection. Overwatch also uses this same feature with pings, emotes and other things. This is personally how I access my hearths, my mounts, food, flasks, teleports, etc. This is such a huge QoL feature that could really do well in the new UI overhaul!

-All in one bags. with more functional sorting systems. I personally just Elvui’s bags because I can’t stand how Adibag sorts and makes it difficult to split stacks or keep individual stacks not stacked. An all in one bag would be amazing for the new UI!

-Is it possible later down the line that variants of the action bars are released as skins? I personally don’t like how the portrait frame looks, the weird circle with … idk how to describe it, the weird blip on the side of it. Looks… not good. I would love to be able to customize how the frame’s skin would look. This would be great with action bars and other elements too, maybe even make it affect every ui page like the spellbook and talents. Just having a different background or effect on them to make different uis stand out more and feel our own.

-I would like to see alt tracking functionality finally added to the base game. It would be nice to be able to see all the gold on our characters on a server. As well as have the game have built in alt detection at the mail box! It’s one of the reasons I still use postal, despite loot everything having been a thing for a few years now.

-This is another strange request, but I feel like others might have the same opinion. Can we, or are we, going to have Elvui’s “panel” and “data bar” systems. What i mean by this is, on WoW’s minimap, normally it displays the search icon and the clock, to see the time. Elvui has functionality to display other information underneath our chat or attached to other panels, that can display time, our gold, durability, our ms/fps, addon usage, friends online, etc. This would be really amazing to include in the UI overhaul as well. As for the panels, these are just boxes that you can change the opacity to, similar to the chat box’s natural function of doing that to the background. This makes it really nice to put damage meters behind or if you guys allow us to add more, put behind out action bars to give really nice stylized action bars.

-Also, can we have a square minimap if we choose to use it? It just displays more information and fits more cleanly on the screen.

I know these things are monumental tasks and editing UIs and the coding going into them is a lot of work. I also know that most of the UI changes seem to only be “move things around”. I really really hope that the UI Overhaul attempts to put more player customizations into the game and not just let us move things. I have used addons like Opie and Elvui for years, because of what they do. I want wow to make me not have to install Elvui updates ever again. It eats up so much memory, it constantly has to be updated, configured with skin addons to make the game not full of black boxes. I’m not a fan of everything being black. I only use elvui for the action bars, the chat panels, the inventory, and minimap. Everything else i disable in its functions and use weakauras for. I wish i didn’t have to. I wish the game could just do these wonderful things!

I just want to customize the buffs that show up on top of my health bar.

The one in the middle of your screen, you see some buffs atop it like ignore pain or shield block.

lmao.

I actually like the default UI and play with zero add-ons and i can time 6+ mythics on my healer just fine.

But like the furry fox said, wish i could pick and choose which buffs show up on my player health bar.

I like all of these requests.

Just for completion’s sake (so others can read and hit like), there was a small thread going on the PTR forums. Altough I think here in GD will be a better place, since the PTR was for 9.2.5

The UI overhaul wasn’t intended for 9.2.5. It made more sense to make it on regular forums, especially since there hasn’t been one in awhile.

You will get what you get and like it!

Blizzard has know for over a decade that players would like many of their favorite addons brought into the game as standard UI features. There have been a few here and there, nothing to significant. Looks like it finally will be more significant, but… be prepared to still install a good chunk of the same addons you like.

They’ve confirmed they’re adding customizable weak auras for stuff like this. You can just not display buffs and then create weak auras to display IP value and Shield Block duration.

Great post.

I’m cautiously optimistic as w/ most big changes lately. Never really used much other than default ui / frames + clique and some cosmetic junk, more options the better and you’ve got some solid ideas here.

The only thing I’m going to do with the new UI is turn most of it off. I don’t even need the stupidly useless minimap outside of herb/mining.

I’d like to add to your list and say that I hope they make the UI more appealing to the eyes. What they showed for DF was too simple and souless.

So long as i can still click my abilities ill be fine. For me though i prefer the original UI, never had issues with it and it works fine. Maybe blizz will implement a way for me to keep the original. I dont want this new one forced on me.
