Things I'd like to see for survival

Here’s a few things in think survival needs and things I’d like to have.

  1. Mongoose bite becoming baseline. Mongoose bite is way to strong compared to the other talents in its row. Mongoose bite is just the default choice in every situation and it’s by a mile. Plus the gameplay that comes with it is kind of fun.

  2. Serpent sting being affected by haste. I don’t think it is on live. If so my bad.

  3. Camouflage becoming baseline. It just feels like something survival should have in its kit. Thematically it fits.

  4. An actual dmg mitigating CD. Turtle is cool and all but something to reduce dmg taken would be nice.

  5. Flanking strike becoming baseline. Kill command is cool and all but It felt cool when both you and your pet attacked at the same time. Made you feel like a team.

  6. Dual wield. I’d love to see it come to the spec. I’m okay if it doesnt but I’d love to see it added.

  7. Maybe some sort of group wide buff? Something to give people a reason to bring survival to groups.

I agree soo much with all of this. I’m not as big of a fan of the DW part, but options are always fun, and I’d try it out even though I’m more partial to 2H’s.

  1. Serpent Sting: My only complaint with Serpent Sting is it’s duration. I like the damage, but i feel like I’m refreshing it constantly, which isn’t the bad part, it’s the cost of the ability. I wish they would either lower the cost, or, if you have SS on a target already the cost is drastically lowered.

  1. Camo: yes please, people think I’m crazy when i roll with this talent for M+ or world content, but it can help skip mobs if you died and the team is ahead of you, or help in world PvP. I agree it should be baseline by now.

  1. defensives: I would love it if we had a better defensive, or it was on a shorter CD… Turtle is ok in a pinch, but as far as from a PvP perspective it doesn’t feel good to use. At least on my ret I can bubble, and attack, or heal, or cast a freedom on my healer if needed. In turtle, you just can’t do anything (a bit of an exaggeration but you get my point here) and it’s CD is WAY too long for what we get IMO.

Since SV is more of the “in your face spec” I would have liked to have seen them keep that ability from legion. I think it was when you were crit with melee you would get some dodge? That’s at least something… Or possibly every time you’re hit by a melee ability or spell your turtle CD is reduced by “x” seconds? Anything would help at this point. I feel like my enhance in pvp, only I can’t really heal.

  1. Flanking Strike: Honestly, the legion version was perfect. The damage felt great, it was unique instead of just copying Kill Command from BM, and it felt more fun to use, even though it fulfilled the same basic role as KC. Also, like KC, you couldn’t use it if your pet was dead. Honestly why Blizzard changed this is beyond me…

Yes 100%, it’s kind of a no choice talent tier. The other two are very niche when it comes to when you’d pick them over mongoose.

Camo baseline is definitely a hard want over need. What I’d like to see is it go back to it’s old CD where as soon as you activate it starts the 1 min timer so you cannot go in and out too much, but you also don’t find yourself in the open for too long.

I don’t mind turtle’s current defensive, with the exception that we should be able to utilize it under CC like bubble, ice block etc… It just feels very bad having to use trinket AND defensive CD all in one. When we aren’t very tanky as it is, having to utilize both at once is a massive shortfall.

With the way Surv is designed, do you think dual wield would give you the mongoose bites you would want to see? I understand the allure of DW, although how much more do we need to walk talk and act like a rogue, without being remotely close to as good as a rogue?

I know y’all love mongoose but to me, it’s a single ability I need to hit 3 times in a row to get the most out of it. That doesn’t feel interesting imo. I’d really rather see more different melee abilities than that one just become base. They could bring in lacerate again and have a bleed that worked with bloodseeker for instance.

In terms of defensives, i used to enjoy popping deterrence and that would feel good I think.

I saw in another post a guy talking about adding a bleed to chakrams as well and thought that was a fantastic idea.

Also I wish we had glyphs available to change certain animations, wildfire bomb in particular. I just find the idea of tossing bombs in melee combat to be utterly ridiculous. I feel like I and my pet should both be leaving combat to head straight to a burn unit and there ‘have’ to be some better ideas for that abilities delivery system out there.

Lastly I think the chakrams really look very cool, and I’d love it if I could use their animation for spreading serpent sting. The tiny toy pocket crossbow that I pull out from… Someplace just doesn’t do it for me, but I really do like hydras bite alot as a method for spread.

I’d like if MB was TWF and Raptor Strike was 2hd, and have Chakrams as spamable for a “ranged” throwing SV but thats about as much as i would compromise on the RSV.

And a bow glyph for the Xbow.

Thats all.

It is affected by haste, but in the most @ss-backwards way possible. Haste reduces the total duration of the debuff, so, while it does tick faster and do more DPS, you have to apply it more frequently so you’re actually getting no extra damage per cast and it ends up being cast so frequently that it interferes with the rest of the APL and loses out in terms of priority. I’m at a complete loss as to how they arrived at this design much less kept it this way for years.

I agree, Mongoose Bite should be base line.
What I’d like to see are some more traps, like an insect trap that slows attack speed and/or a snake trap that increases poison damage.
I also think something like ‘Helchain’ would work great for Survival especially if it locked onto the target allowing the hunter and pet to run around it.
Having ‘Dagger in the Back’ as a passive or something like it would be good too as Survival hunters usually stand behind mobs opposite their pet.
A passive that negated head-on charges (and perhaps scored a crit) would also be in keeping with Survival hunters.

Which doesn’t make sense to me why it’s the only dot in the game (As far as I know) That does this. It feels bad.
