Things 5 - Warlocks Buffs that need to happen

1, changing corruption talent so actual increases damage done. just make corruption instant baseline (reason for this read below) fixing dots

corruption atm deals at level50 deals 108 damage every 3 seconds lasting 18 seconds max total of 486

what it should be doing is around 155 damage every 3 seconds lasting 18 seconds this with every gear peice you have buffing spell power

agony is pathetic - its talent is also pathetic - it deals 46 damage per tick 780 damage over 24 seconds - Pathitic it should be doing double that about damage like 95-108 per tic

drain soul - should be made instant should just do its 295 damage instead of it being channeled over 15 seconds (watch remind you is only soulshard gaining ability in the

improved drain soul is terrible talent hot garbage should either be removed have weakness take its place

  1. weak curses
curse of weakness - needs be buffed too but like 10% not by much rank 5 22 attack damage reduce it should be maybe 30-32 Its a curse should have purpose even when amplified

cant use agony or weakness along side other curses

  • now main issues -
Curse of Exhaustion - garbage requires 1 talent point linked to 4 talents points and still garbage.

amplify curse having bigger cooldown then it needs to have sense only effects 3 curses honestly perfur it be used on any of your warlocks skills cause having 50% strong health stone would be good cause healing on health stone isnt all that good this should be addressed at some point

  1. 21 + in affliction talents is far as any anyone should go cause life siphon. shadow mastery and specially dark awful there so awful that they should never be talent. so classic really punishes players who enjoy the dot game sod tries to approve on it but still crap. cause we dont have shadow equilvant to ruin or have ruin effect all warlock spells instead of destruction at trade off of suppression working for all warlock spells i think that is fair

  2. Warlock Pets are garbage- only one remotely useful in raiding and pve content is imp. sorry vold walker its not doing its job never has. only ever used for sacrifice when taking doesn’t hold talented or not. felhunter and succibus mostly pvp i have issue with fel hunter now having an attack like shadow bite. charming demon spell wouldnt be so bad if it was permapet and didnt want kill you every 5 mins opps did say 5 mins no that has dimishing returns. doomgaurd hard to summon and infernal only good for aoe stuns they dont scale off your stats and go homicidal on you.

as you can see classic warlock pets are nothing be shout out about the fail at what there so post to do. in fact imp only gets decent when make it a machine gun

  1. fixing metamorphis. and swear getting some type of silence immunity I hate I mean I hate. trying tank as metamorphis at 50 when get muiti-stacks of silence not just one no you get 5 stacks of 14 second silences when do mara or get bats brd. or run into fire immunity there is not thinking outside box. no keeping aggro. everyone gonna die… unless you have healer with magic dispel

charge ability - what the point of this really If it could be used in combat then probably be used but no one uses it
Malice - being melee ranged taunt on caster tank is a bad idea very bad
shadow cleave - being hot garbage- honest let them instant cast shadowbolt volley with reduced damage at this point
searing pain - is good but its fire have no other opinions generation threat

500% armor isn’t enough -600% more often or add 20% dodge or hp or 25 magic resistance

sense you cant block cant parry you dont have any dodge your hp is really bad. and ppl seem want run dps specs now sense you nerfed soul link making tanking absolute buttcheeks atm

is it wrong ask for affliction be somewhat viable and are pets not to suck. and not have crappy talents in talent tree full of crappy talents no i dont think so. think plenty fair

Yes. We don’t need a second shadow priest. Just getting dotted should not be a guaranteed death for classes that cannot heal or dispel themselves.

thats stupid response thats like saying I dont want shaman to cause elemental spells and be honest warlocks should be better at dotting classes then shadow priest thing is about balience dont seem get

is in pvp cast-times = death -

Just play soul link with haunt and unstable affliction. It’s absolutely insane right now in PVP.

only in pvp

  1. Affliction is already viable in pve and pvp… Frankly if you first lock ISN’T running affliction with pact your raid is probably doing something wrong.

Corruption damage is fine, as is Agony’s. If you have gear a full set of dots and haunt absolutely melts people in pvp. The Agony talent is a meme though. This is a pvp only complaint as the vast majority of warlocks shouldn’t ever be using agony in a raid.

Drain soul would be overpowered as a nuke if it did immediate damage

Imp drain soul is a leveling talent (and unneeded)

  1. Curses are “fine”. Weakness does suck except when amplified vs a dagger rogue or feral (and even then it’s still not great), but the rest of the curses already cover every situation.

  2. The only reason you don’t go 30 affliction right now is because Ruin + improved sbotl is a bigger dps increase overalll… The affliction builds for both pve and pvp next phase will be SM/Ruin.

Dark pact does suck for anything but leveling, but it was never going to be stronger than ruin regardless.

  1. Felguards have SUPER niche uses as well (for demo tanks MD buff and for soloing/offtanking)… but in normal vanilla PvE most warlocks would use demo sac and run petless, with a smaller amount running sm/ruin and an imp (which was on passive the entire time for the buff only)… SoD is already a major improvement in pet utility.

For pvp purposes, the only two viable pets are felhunter and succubus, both are overpowered. Voidwalker also has some niche uses dueling melee/non offensive dispellers.

Doomguard and Infernal are both borderline useless I’ll admit. Even as an emergency stun/pet I think I used under 5 infernals in classic (used it a ton in og vanilla, but I had worse pet management so my normal pet died far more often)… Doomguard can be used for gambling purposes/for doomguard roulette. That’s the only use I’ve found for it in 20 years.

  1. Meta is more or less fine… Most tanks struggle with silence mechanics… I’m more concerned with fire immunities. Wouldn’t hate the charge being usable in combat either… It doesn’t currently really fill a role

I don’t really feel warlock tank is weak at all though… You can build up absurd dodge if you spec for it, but it comes at a hefty threat cost, so most don’t.

TLDR we’re fine.

Warlock main since 2019 here

1a. Corruption. Changing this to the wrath version (instant cast baseline) would be pretty nice. Though it does come with the consequence of Destro being able to use Corruption (as the cast time is too steep to otherwise). This makes the 2 specs harder to balance relative to eachother.

1b. Agony. Agony not meant to be a primary dps ability. It is meant to be something for the warlocks not assigned another curse to press.

1c. Drain Soul. This is not meant to be a dps ability. It is meant for soul shard generation in trash packs. What you are describing is basically what Shadowburn does. (Though in Wrath, Drain Soul had a strong execute, but I’m not sure they’d go that route. But who knows, maybe they do). Also the drain soul talent is meant for levelling and/or mob-farming, not for pve.

2a. Curse of weakness. Weakness does do work over the course of a fight. Particularly, Amplified Weakness on Gasher in Atali Defenders makes the healers’ job a lot easier. A small buff could be nice, but warlock buffs should be for dps, not for their utility

2b. Curse stacking. This is why you bring multiple warlocks to the raid. Right now, for perfect curse coverage, you need 2 shadow priests for elements and shadows, a warlock for recklessness, and a warlock to put either weakness or tongues depending on the target.

2c. Curse of exhaustion. Really only worth it for pvp or maybe mob grinds. Never meant to be a raid curse

2d. Amplify Curse. I think the cooldown is fine. But I do agree that it amplifying more curses would be nice, especially recklessness

  1. Life siphon is just bad DPS. Shadow Mastery will probably be a pretty good talent at lvl 60 as you can play Shadow Mastery + Ruin. Dark Pact I do agree is an awful talent since you have life tap anyway, but you would need something insane at the bottom of that tree for affliciton locks to forego that point in Ruin. At level 50 right now, the 2 main dps builds are Nightfall+Ruin and Conflag Destro. The dots just dont do enough damage to outpace the Nightfall procs. However, I think this leads to more interesting rotations as it is no longer just keep dots up and shadow bolt fill. Now you need to maximize the benefit of you nightfall procs.
  2. Let me lay out what Warlock pets are for
Imp - Primary DPS pet, bring stamina to your party
Voidwalker - For PVP or PVE mob grinding
Succubus - Alternate DPS pet, useful in some raid fights to CC humanoids
Felhunter - Utility pet for if your raid doesn’t have enough kicks or dispels for a certain fight
Felguard - Pet for tanks to fully utilize Demonic Sacrifice/Master Demonologist
Doomguard - More of a fun trick than a viable pet
Infernal - Good for AOE stuns, as you said, more of something to use on trash packs though
  3. Metamorphosis. A big part of the class balance, especially with tanks is ensuring that each spec does something really well and other things less well.
    Warriors hold threat the best
Bear Druids have the best mitigation
Warlocks can hold threat at range and kite the best and also have the best magic resistances.
Shamans and Paladins bring the most utility to the raid

When it comes to fire immunities and a lot of silences. Those are places where warlocks are not meant to tank.

Charge - More of a pvp ability
Malice (taunt)- If it was a ranged taunt, it would be extremely broken, and would invalidate Hunters having Distracting shot as a unique thing.
Shadow Cleave - This isn’t designed to do a lot of damage, it is designed to help hold aoe threat.
Searing Pain - If the enemy is immune to fire, get a different class to tank it.

Armor: Warlocks don’t need more armor, the armor they get from their tank gear is fine and they get 10% damage reduction and a whole bunch of resistances from Master Demonologist. I will say thought it would be nice if they had more than just Vengeance for a defensive cooldown.

Affliction IS viable. You go Nightfall and then Ruin. You still use Unstable Affliction over Immolate and keep Haunt up, and half the time, my Imp is doing around 100dps, the pets are NOT bad.

Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk

You covered a lot of my points. Just took forever for my browser to upload my response lol

there is possiblity of them adding shadow fury as defensive cooldown for tanking warlocks aoe damaging stun. or seed of corruption watch could be really big for affliction

Honestly, just something like a self dispel on a 5 min cd or a 30 min raid cooldown that says “Each time an enemy hits you, drain 50 of their health. Lasts 30 seconds”

Sir, this is a Wendy’s…

In all seriousness though, you are likely going to be disappointed if you are expecting massive revamps to classes and their talent trees. I wouldn’t expect them to do more than “fix” things by adding the final runes and adjusting numbers. Unless if the class and its runes are in dumpster fire state, like say paladin, don’t expect much.

My guild has elected me President of Warlocks so let me weigh in.

  1. We need soulwell!

  2. Corruption needs a buff, maybe a new max rank at 60 or a rune that makes all affliction dots better. Spriest is better than us at dots and pets at this point. They gave them our things and turned us into fire mages.

  3. Death coil cooldown should be reduced to 1 min. We have very little in terms of defensive cooldowns for pvp and deathcoil being on CD can make or break a fight. Lots of moves like this made more sense in vanilla classic, but SoD has so many things added, we need this to keep up.

  4. Tying in with #3, 1.5 second cast on fear was easy enough to get off in vanilla classic but much more difficult in SoD. Maybe howl of terror could be instant cast, or something could proc an instant fear.

  5. Soul Siphon, Shadowflame, Invocation, and more need a rework. We may have more dead runes than any other class.

  6. Seed of corruption!

Jesus the formatting is awful here. Just gonna go through a few things.

  1. Afflock DOES need a buff, it’s worse then desto and that needs a massive buff too.
  2. The changes that need to happen to make afflock better are just numbers buffs tbh. Corruption, UA, Haunt, and Siphon Life all need their scaling increased by about 50%. Desto lock just needs soulfire to not cost a soul shard, then it should be fine. The rest of the changes here aren’t super important.

I always forget about Soul Fire. Maybe an instant proc & no soul shard would help in that department

Wouldnt be surprised if they gave us the AQ spell upgrade books early.

Also regarding what you said about soul fire in your later reply, I think Decimate would be really cool (hitting an enemy below 20% health with a shadow bolt, incinerate, soulfire, etc makes your next soulfire cast 50% faster and not cost a shard)
